As a long-time Call of Duty fan and someone who has followed the console wars for years, I can’t help but feel excited about the upcoming Black Ops 6 beta and its inclusive release across all platforms. After a few lackluster CoD titles in recent years, it’s great to see Treyarch back at the helm, and the promise of a Gulf War-set shooter has me eagerly anticipating this game.
I’m thrilled to be going back to my favorite series in a major way with Black Ops in 2024. It’s been a while since we had a solid entry from the Call of Duty franchise, but I’m glad Treyarch is once again taking the reins. While Black Ops Cold War in 2020 had its flaws, many of us believe it was the best CoD title from recent years. This gives me hope that Black Ops 6 in 2024 will build upon this legacy and deliver an exceptional gaming experience.
As a huge fan of the Call of Duty series, I eagerly anticipate the new installment that drops every year like clockwork. This time around, it’s set in the Gulf War and is slated for release on October 25. I can hardly wait to rejoin forces with Woods and his team. But before the full game arrives, there’s a beta version, Black Ops 6, to satisfy our hunger for action and give us a sneak peek into the gameplay.
Black Ops 6 beta dates reignite console wars
The Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 beta is unique as it’s the initial CoD beta accessible concurrently on all gaming platforms. I’m thrilled Microsoft put an end to this custom. 😊

Starting from September 6 and ending on September 8, there will be an open beta for Black Ops 6 available to the public. However, those who have pre-ordered the game can access it earlier, from August 30 to September 4. This is a significant milestone in the Call of Duty universe as Black Ops 6 is the first title released post-Activision Blizzard’s historic deal.
PlayStation supporters, including Jim Ryan himself, strongly expressed their views about the acquisition. Previously, you may recall that most Call of Duty games initially released on PlayStation with exclusive early access. Now, however, this marks a significant shift where all platforms will enjoy simultaneous early access for the first time.
As a gamer who’s part of the Game Pass community, I can tell you that we have an extra perk. We don’t have to pre-order to gain access to the latest releases like Call of Duty. Yes, there’s been a subscription fee increase lately, but think about it: on release day, we get to play CoD just like those who pre-ordered. That’s a pretty sweet deal, if I do say so myself!
As a PlayStation fan, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgic pain whenever beta dates are announced. Though we’ve come a long way since the console wars, these reminders bring back memories of past battles for supremacy. When The Verge’s Tom Warren praised Microsoft for abolishing the exclusive early access deals, I couldn’t help but join in the applause. Yet, as a PlayStation owner, I can’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy towards those on other platforms who get to enjoy new features first.
One critic expressed disappointment, “I try to avoid getting drawn into console debates and their associated negativity, but didn’t Microsoft initiate the Call of Duty marketing partnerships and exclusive beta access during the Xbox 360 era? They no longer engage in such practices now, as part of the agreement reached with regulators“
An individual commented with a smile, “It’s refreshing to read the comments recognizing that Xbox initiated this practice 😉,”, and another person added, “Microsoft discontinuing an earlier arrangement where Xbox paid Activision to exclusively release Call of Duty DLCs a month ahead – corporate jargon might make one forget their past actions.”
Xbox players should also enjoy the perks, to put it mildly, though I must admit I’m somewhat displeased that the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 beta begins on all consoles simultaneously. Previously, Sony had an exclusive arrangement with CoD, giving them a full week of exclusivity. Now that Microsoft owns CoD, I believe Xbox and PC users should receive equal privileges.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve long been aware that Microsoft waving the Call of Diness scepter in Sony’s direction would ignite some serious controversy. But it looks like allowing cross-platform gameplay has only added fuel to the console war flames. It’s always exciting to see the competition heat up between gaming giants!
