After The Acolyte Finale Delivered Reveals Star Wars Fans Have Been Waiting For, I'm Dying For Season 2 To Answer One Very Specific Question

As a long-time Star Wars fan with a deep appreciation for the rich lore of the galaxy far, far away, I can’t help but be intrigued by the mysteries that surfaced in the finale of The Acolyte. Though we were treated to some epic appearances from iconic characters like Jedi Master Ki-Adi-Mundi and the dark side menace Qimir, it was the enigmatic backstory of Osha and Mae that left me utterly captivated.

Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS ARE AHEAD for the Season 1 finale of The Acolyte on Disney+.

The Acolyte’s first season on Disney+ offered Star Wars enthusiasts a fresh perspective with its eight episodes, delving into the unexplored High Republic era. Although some viewers attempted to negatively impact the reviews and expressed disappointment over certain scenes, the finale left many fans exhilarated, potentially placing it among Disney+’s top Star Wars shows. The episode not only unveiled long-awaited revelations but also introduced intriguing plot points for a potential second season, leaving me with one burning question that needs resolution.

After “The Acolyte” concluded its run in the 2024 TV lineup, it’s time to dissect the Season 1 finale’s revelations and hidden meanings. We’ll examine what was explicitly shown, what remained a mystery, and speculate on the possible return of Osha and other surviving characters for potential future seasons on Disney+.

Yoda And Darth Plagueis Cameos

Approximately a century prior to the Star Wars prequel trilogy’s events, The Acolyte was established. Although most well-known characters couldn’t feature due to this time difference, there were exceptions. For instance, who would have suspected seeing Ki-Adi-Mundi in Episode 5? Regardless, he holds a significant place in our Star Wars movies’ ranking of powerful Jedi. Likewise, Yoda was alive and thriving during the High Republic era. Additionally, The Acolyte has provided hints regarding Darth Plagueis. Consequently, the Season 1 finale delivered on these intriguing revelations!

In simpler terms, although no character officially introduced themselves as Darth Plagueis during the brief appearance of the shadowy figure in the potentially unidentified planet, some fans believe this mystery character could none other than him. The sequence aligns with Plagueis’ reported timeline, fueling speculation among viewers. Unfortunately, the scene was too dimly lit for a clear identification, but the Disney+ audio description hints at Plagueis being the possible figure.

Looking out from the cave’s entrance, one can see the vessel departing, soaring beyond the atmosphere. A bony hand grasps the rocky ledge. In the darkness, an ominous figure in a cloak emerges, its elongated head poking out and its eyes glowing orange as it scrutinizes the scene.

Among “Star Wars” fans, the identity of the second figure in this scene may spark debate, especially if anyone has strong opinions about Yaddle. However, most viewers will likely agree that it’s Yoda who appears from behind, with Vernestra entering the room to discuss important matters following her accusation against Sol, whose death came later than anticipated.

In the interest of fairness, I also checked Disney+’s English audio description for this cameo:

I enter a room shrouded in dimness. My perspective descends, revealing the back of a figure with elongated, pointed green ears and fine strands of white hair.

I was thrilled when Yoda and Plagueis made an appearance in the Season 1 finale, connecting “The Acolyte” to the larger Star Wars saga in a more meaningful way than Ki-Adi-Mundi’s cameo a few episodes prior. However, what has me deeply contemplating now is not related to these iconic Jedi or Sith figures.

The Question I’m Asking About Osha And Mae

In the finale, despite the appearances of well-known characters from the major franchise, the focus remained on Osha, Mae, and their crucial decisions regarding Sol and Qimir. After Qimir lured Osha to an unidentified island and Sol revealed his role in their mother’s demise, Osha made a momentous choice. Demonstrating the strength of a Jedi killer without a weapon, she executed a Force choke so powerful that it would have impressed Darth Vader centuries later.

The demise of Sol led to the blue lightsaber in Osha’s hand shedding crimson drops and transforming into the familiar red hue linked to the Sith and Inquisitors in “Star Wars” lore. It was later unveiled that Osha and Mae were not identical sisters, but rather two manifestations of the same individual brought forth by the Force due to a convergence at Brendok. Facing their respective paths forward, Osha courageously offered herself to be trained by Qimir, allowing Mae to be spared. However, prior to Mae’s memory being erased, the sisters shared an intriguing conversation.

The pair repeated a phrase as tears rolled down, making Mae wonder aloud, “Which of us learned this verse?” Perplexed, Osha replied, “I believed we came up with it.” Just then, Qimir appeared, interrupting before they could delve deeper into the rhyme they knew intimately but neither had created. Who crafted it long ago?

I’m really curious about that! Although there are larger questions at play in the galaxy that could change its fate, as a character, I’m intrigued by this hint of another mystery surrounding Osha and Mae’s past. Since I don’t expect anyone to provide a definitive answer following the finale, I’ll have to wait for Season 2 to possibly uncover more information.

Will The Acolyte Return For Season 2?

At present, no information is available about a second season of “The Acolyte.” Despite this, I’m hopeful due to some clues. Unlike “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” which was marketed as a limited series, “The Acolyte” didn’t receive such labeling. Moreover, the ending of the first season seemed to intentionally leave room for future episodes. However, it’s important to note that a similar situation occurred with “The Book of Boba Fett,” whose finale suggested a second season but ultimately did not materialize, leaving Temuera Morrison looking for another opportunity on “The Mandalorian.”

I eagerly anticipate that the standalone nature of “The Acolyte” within the larger “Star Wars” universe on Disney+ won’t negatively impact its chances for additional episodes. Although it may not directly connect to Dave Filoni’s movie or the High Republic era in the same way, I strongly believe there is ample potential for this intriguing storyline to continue. While I wasn’t instantly captivated by “The Acolyte” as I was with the first seasons of “The Mandalorian” and “Ahsoka,” I firmly believe that the series wrapped up its narrative threads effectively, making it a pity if we don’t get to see these talented actors reprise their roles for another installment. Consequently, I eagerly await the announcement of a second season!

While we anticipate updates about “The Acolyte,” you can satisfy your “Star Wars” cravings effortlessly with a Disney+ subscription. This streaming platform houses every live-action “Star Wars” TV production, along with the animated series and all the movies.
