Superman’s James Gunn Shares A Tender Message And Sweet Photos As Filming Nears Its Conclusion

As a hardcore gamer and comic book fan who grew up with Superman being one of my all-time favorite superheroes, I couldn’t be more excited about the upcoming DC movie, “Superman,” which is now wrapping up its production in Cleveland. The fact that this city holds such a special place in the history of Superman, being the hometown of his creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, makes it even more thrilling for me to see it brought to life on the big screen.

Next summer marks the comeback of Superman. The initial DC film for James Gunn‘s DCU Chapter 1 has reached a significant milestone in its production process. With Superman’s release date less than a year away, the movie is wrapping up its shooting in Cleveland, serving as a stand-in for Metropolis. Bid farewell to the city, as James Gunn shared an emotional farewell message upon leaving.

I was thrilled to read James Gunn’s heartfelt farewell message on Threads about leaving Cleveland after filming there for “Superman.” Despite the occasional set leaks that caused some inconvenience, my experience working in this city has been truly enjoyable. It seems the feeling was mutual, as Cleveland appeared to have cherished our presence as well. In his post, James expressed…

In Cleveland, we’re bidding farewell today after spending six wonderful weeks filming here. Ever since our initial scout last year when Terminal Tower was bathed in Superman’s colors, I sensed a unique charm about this city. As I strolled through your streets, people would approach me time and again, expressing their gratitude for our presence in their town – an occurrence that wasn’t limited to just once or twice, but numerous times.

Upon the arrival of a significant film production in a given location, normal life routines may become disrupted. Local residents could face challenges in carrying out their usual activities. Nevertheless, it seems that the people of Cleveland extended a warm reception to the cast and crew of Superman.

It’s possible that the city holds a significant relation to the Man of Steel due to being the birthplace of Superman’s creators. Consequently, it seems fitting that Cleveland is featured in the upcoming film. While working in Cleveland, Gunn expressed his gratitude to the locals for their warmth and encouragement.

In a heartfelt appreciation, I’d like to highlight the delightful supporting cast members in our film production. Their infectious humor and joyfulness during takes brought an undeniable sense of pleasure. It served as a gentle reminder for us skeptical movie-makers, rekindling the passion for why we embark on this cinematic journey in the first place.

Next to his post about the movie, James Gunn shared some candid photos taken during filming in Cleveland. Judging by the images, it seems everyone was having a blast. Take a peek.

After finishing filming in Cleveland, “Superman” is not completely done shooting. The director disclosed that there are still some key scenes left to be filmed, but they will be shot at a different location instead. He commented…

We haven’t finished filming yet. We still have a few more weeks left in Cleveland. Yes, it’s a lengthy production process… but we’re almost there!

Over the next couple of months, some additional filming (reshoots) will be required for “Superman.” However, the production stage is soon ending, and the movie will move on to post-production. This crucial phase brings the comic book adaptation to life. We might even catch a glimpse of Superman’s first flight in the trailer’s early footage before the year concludes.
