As a gamer with a deep interest in technology and business, I was saddened to hear about the passing of J. Michael Cline. His impressive resume and entrepreneurial spirit left me in awe. I’ve always admired individuals who not only excelled in their academic pursuits, having completed an undergraduate degree at Cornell University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, but also went on to create successful businesses that revolutionized industries.
J. Michael Cline, the finance expert behind Fandango’s inception, passed away on Tuesday following a fall from a tall building in New York City. At the time of his unfortunate demise, he was 64 years old.
On Tuesday at 10:19 a.m., The New York Police Department received emergency calls about an incident at The Kimberly Hotel on East 50th Street. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered an unconscious and unresponsive male who appeared to have fallen from a height, causing injuries. The police investigation into this matter is still in progress.
Paramedics declared the man, later known as Cline, deceased. The reason for his death wasn’t immediately clear, but there are rumors suggesting he took his own life.
Cline, who earned his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and obtained an MBA from Harvard Business School, established Fandango, a movie ticketing platform, in the year 2000. He remained with this company until its acquisition by Comcast in 2007, having been with it for over a decade before departing in 2011. Currently, Fandango is under the ownership of NBCUniversal and Warner Bros.
Cline additionally established various businesses such as R1 RCM, Accolade, Insureon, Everspring, and Accumen, plus some more, serving as the co-founding managing partner of Accretive, LLC. Preceding Accretive, Cline held the position of general partner at General Atlantic. Prior to that engagement, he worked as an associate at McKinsey & Company.
In addition to his current roles, Cline served as the executive chairman at investment firm Juxtapose, as stated on LinkedIn, and also held the position of chairman for the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
He is survived by his wife Pamela B. Cline and their six children.
