Donald Glover Says Joel McHale Inadvertently Prepared Him for ‘Hot Ones’

As a huge fan of both Donald Glover and the popular web series “Hot Ones,” I was absolutely thrilled to witness his appearance on the show. His anecdote about Joel McHale and their shared love for hot sauce during the filming of “Community” added an interesting layer to their dynamic and showcased how experiences from our past can shape us in unexpected ways.

I was thoroughly enjoying Donald Glover’s Hot Ones episode when he brought up an intriguing flashback from his past. He reminisced about an amusing experience he had with Joel McHale while filming Community.

During the initial run of the program, McHale’s eating habits, which consisted solely of espresso and eggs, left a strong impression on Glover. He admired McHale greatly, as he was striving for an ideal physique with a forthcoming shirtless scene in mind.

McHale added zest to his eggs by using hot sauce, suggesting Glover do the same with spices. Later, they developed a shared interest in seasoning their dishes fiercely. Reflecting on this, McHale, the actor-rapper, acknowledged, “I’d been adding hot sauce to everything and then it struck me that perhaps our newfound enthusiasm for spicing up our meals had increased my tolerance.”

He then thanked McHale on camera for inadvertently preparing him for his feat on the web series.

Glover showed great composure during the entire episode, yet encountered difficulties in the middle. The moniker “Da’ Bomb Beyond Insanity” lived up to its billing when Glover from Atlanta expressed his displeasure, exclaiming, “I don’t like that.” His focus on host Sean Evans’ query was severely affected as he attempted to deal with the unpleasant aftertaste.

With the second-to-last bottle, which was High River Sauces’ Peppers Up! featuring the extremely hot Apollo pepper, he encountered a distinctly contrasting experience. “This [Da’ Bomb] was agonizing,” he remarked lightheartedly, bracing himself for potential discomfort before sampling the upcoming sauce.

After taking a bite, he commented, “This reminds me of the sensation I get from ayahuasca.” Evans shared a similar experience. “You know, after all these years, I still encounter moments where I feel a lightheadedness, a sense of weightlessness, and an overwhelmingly pleasant feeling. I can’t help but enjoy it.”

“I love it, I’m definitely getting it too,” said the rapper.

At the end of their Hot Ones challenge, Glover uncovered its secret. “This is how to conquer the last one,” he shared. “By then, you’ve come to expect that everything will be alright. It’s fascinating, isn’t it? You start off feeling fine, but soon enough there comes a point where you think you can’t go on. And once you’ve passed that hurdle, you realize, ‘Wow, I’ve got what it takes to tackle anything.'”

As a dedicated gamer and follower of pop culture, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of the long-awaited “Community” movie. But alas, it seems that I must put my excitement on hold for now, as Donald Glover is moving on from his rap persona, Childish Gambino. This Friday, he will be dropping a brand new album titled “Bando Stone & the New World” – mark my words, this is going to be a game-changer!
