After Zac Efron Complimented Dave Franco's Robert De Niro Impression, Seth Rogen Told A Hilarious Story About What Happened To His Face While Filming Neighbors

As a huge fan of comedies, I can’t help but express my appreciation for the underrated gem that is “Neighbors” (2014). The collaboration between Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg never fails to crack me up! Recently, Zac Efron shared some behind-the-scenes stories about filming the iconic Robert De Niro party scene. His account was followed by Rogen’s own recollections of the experience.

When it comes to fantastic comedies, the underrated gem from 2014, “Neighbors,” produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, is a real laugh-riot! Even Zac Efron couldn’t forget the amusing Robert De Niro impression by Dave Franco. And Rogen shared his own amusing experience while filming the hilarious frat party scene.

Amongst the neighbors who celebrated their 10-year anniversaries last May, Zac Efron recounted working with Dave Franco on the Delta Psi Beta brothers’ Robert De Niro-themed party in “Neighbors.” Efron admittedly improvised his portrayal of De Niro, but was taken aback by Franco’s convincing rendition of the “Meet The Parents” character. Now, Seth Rogen shares insights on filming that memorable scene, stating:

In clear and simple terms: I recall distinctly that Dave Franco was in that particular scene, making a De Niro-like expression. It took us an extensive amount of time to film this scene. We usually shoot one side first and then the other in a scene, but I believe we filmed our side initially. During this time, Franco maintained his intense expression off-camera. However, when it came to shooting his side, his facial muscles seemed to tire out significantly, making it difficult for him to continue the De Niro impression. Consequently, we had to pause filming. This is mostly what I can recall about that scene.

During an interview with Etalk, Rogen chuckled uncontrollably as he recounted Dave Franco’s amusing portrayal of Robert De Niro while filming “Neighbors.”

As a seasoned film critic with years of experience dissecting and analyzing cinematic masterpieces, I have come to truly appreciate the intricacies and challenges that go into bringing a scene to life on the big screen. Based on what was shared, it’s clear that this production faced an interesting predicament while filming a particular sequence involving Rogen and Rose Byrne, as well as their respective husbands, interacting with the boisterous frat bros next door.

A recent revelation regarding the production of “Neighbors” (2014) adds to its impression! Initially, Zac Efron discussed making this comedy during an interview with Vanity Fair while reflecting on his past iconic roles. He shared some insights about filming a specific scene:

As someone who has spent years observing and studying human behavior, I find the use of colloquial language and expressive storytelling to be a powerful tool for connecting with others and conveying experiences in a relatable way. In this passage, the speaker shares an amusing encounter with a person who bears a striking resemblance to Robert De Niro. They describe their initial reaction to the situation with raw humor and candor, using vivid language and a conversational tone that draws the listener in.

As a gamer, I can’t help but be thrilled by the chaos that unfolds at the frat party in this scene. It really comes alive when Rogen’s new father loses his patience with the college crowd.

The first Neighbors film, released in 2014, was such a hit that a sequel, titled Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, emerged two years later. In this installment, Chloë Grace Moretz’s character Shelby and her sorority sisters became part of the neighborhood scene. Seth Rogen once proposed an outlandish concept for a third Neighbors movie in 2016; however, it seems unlikely that another film will materialize.

I’m thrilled that Zac Efron and Seth Rogen have back-to-back movie projects in 2024, making it possible for their “Neighbors” stories to surface so closely. For the past three weeks, I’ve been enjoying Efron’s Netflix movie “A Family Affair.” Meanwhile, Rogen has created and stars in “Sausage Party: Foodtopia,” which is now streaming on Amazon Prime for those with a subscription. In an exclusive interview with TopMob, Rogen discussed recording food orgy scenes with Kristen Wiig and Sam Richardson – it’s quite an intriguing conversation!
