Jabari Banks as Will Smith Clashes With Estranged Father, Banks Family in ‘Bel-Air’ Third Season Trailer

As a longtime fan of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” I was beyond excited when I heard about Peacock’s dramatic take on the classic sitcom, Bel-Air. Having grown up with Will Smith’s iconic portrayal of a street-smart Philadelphia teen navigating the luxurious and often overwhelming world of Los Angeles, I couldn’t wait to see Jabari Banks bring the character to life in this gritty reimagining.

In the third season preview of “Bel-Air,” streaming on Peacock, Jabari Banks continues to feel out of place among the wealthy elite of Los Angeles, as a more serious and dramatic adaptation of the 1990s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” featuring Will Smith.

“Banks, portraying Smith’s famous character, remarks in the trailer that ‘you used to tell me I was the one in charge of my own fate.’ As the savvy Philadelphia teenager navigates through the sweltering summer of Los Angeles and encounters his long-lost father Lou, played by Marlon Wayans, he continues to struggle.”

“Basketball was my ticket out of the hood for me, but now I see my son repeating the same mistakes. I’m powerless to stop him, sitting here next to Uncle Phil, played by Adrian Holmes, feeling utterly frustrated.”

Based on Morgan Cooper’s 2019 mock trailer that reinvented the classic sitcom as a modern-day drama with grit, Bel-Air’s third season follows Smith as he navigates his challenging path from Philadelphia’s rough streets to a Californian summer filled with beach parties, bonfires, and Juneteenth festivities.

“No matter what, there will be a cost. That’s for you to bear,” Joseph Marcell, who portrays Geoffrey the butler in the original “Fresh Prince” sitcom and makes an appearance in the third season of “Bel-Air,” expresses in the trailer at one point.

In the “Bel-Air” series, Cassandra Freeman portrays Vivian Banks, Olly Sholotan plays Carlton Banks, Coco Jones is cast as Hilary Banks, Akira Akbar assumes the role of Ashley Banks, and Jordan L. Jones takes on Jazz’s character.

Carla Banks Waddles has taken over as the lead producer for the drama “Bel-Air,” which is being overseen by executive producers Morgan Cooper, Will Smith, Terence Carter, James Lassiter, Miguel Melendez, Benny Medina, Quincy Jones, Andy Borowitz, Susan Borowitz, Janeika James, and Jasheila James. “Bel-Air” is a production of Universal Television and Westbrook Studios.
