As a long-time fan of the Marvel vs. Capcom series, I cannot contain my excitement for the upcoming “Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics.” Having grown up playing these iconic games, it brings me immense joy to know that Capcom is giving us fans a solid nostalgia trip with this compilation.
Story Highlights
- Marvel vs. Capcom is an iconic fighting video game franchise featuring a crossover between two huge universes.
- There hasn’t been a new Marvel vs Capcom game in a long while, but a collection comprising older ones is coming.
- The producer of the upcoming compilation, Shuhei Matsumoto, speaks positively about the series’ future.
If there’s any fighting video game franchise right up there with the top dogs, it’s certainly Marvel vs. Capcom. The series spanning 8 different mainline iterations is about to get a solid nostalgia trip sometime later this year in the name of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, but before its release, the producer of the compilation has had a few words to share about the future of the series.
In an interview with Dexerto, Shuhei Matsumoto, the producer of Capcom’s upcoming classics compilation, shared his excitement about the project. He emphasized that these beloved games hold a special place in Capcom, explaining that they are deeply cherished within the company.
As a long-time fan of these beloved game series, I can’t help but feel excited about the potential they hold. Though we may not be able to create grand productions just yet, we can at least prove their existence. We’re passionate about these games and deeply hope that others share our enthusiasm. Perhaps, in time, as more people discover these series, new opportunities will emerge for us to develop even bigger and better games. Our love for these stories drives us forward, fueled by the belief that they deserve a wider audience and greater recognition.
When asked about the potential for a new installment in the Marvel vs. Capcom series, Shuhei replied, “Our team at Capcom harbors grand ambitions.” He added, “Perhaps we have the chance to create a fresh Marvel vs. Capcom title. Alternatively, there’s a possibility for a new Capcom versus SNK game.”
Capcom Finally Went Through With That One Thing People Awaited For Years
Yet, the success of these classics largely depends on their reception upon release later this year, according to Matsuomo.
If that were to come true for us, it would involve quite an investment of time and resources to produce and distribute those classic types of games. But in the meantime, we can make a difference by introducing these legacy titles to a new fanbase. These folks may have never had the chance to experience them because they’re no longer available on modern platforms.
