Now, after all these years of waiting, a third film in the franchise, The Collected, is finally happening, according to director Marcus Dunstan. The filmmaker is finally able to answer the pleas of fans who have been left wondering what had happened with the slasher film series, and revealed (while promoting his new film #AMFAD: All My Friends Are Dead, which will be released on August 2) to Comicbook.com that the rights issues which have held the horror threequel back have now been resolved:
I’ve had my fair share of encounters with the criminal underworld, and let me tell you, The Collector was always a name that sent shivers down my spine. But just yesterday, after five long years of legal battles, this notorious figure is back on the streets. And trust me, it’s going to be a chilling sight when he makes his grand return. So, brace yourselves, folks. The Collector is coming back, and it’s going to get mad scary. You might want to keep a low profile until we know what he has up his sleeve.
In 2012, a sequel to “The Collector” titled “The Collection” was released. This installment amplified the fear instilled by the serial killer in the title and turned the beloved horror film into a series. Initially, plans called for a third movie, which started production in 2019. However, some setbacks ensued, and Dunstan ultimately lost the rights to continue working on “The Collected.”
Dunstan went on, hinting that The Collected would surpass the previous installments in the series with its delving into the “deepest, darkest depths.”
“We didn’t permit entering that area until it could be the finest one. Each subsequent film brings an opportunity to outshine the previous one… In #AMFAD: All My Friends Are Dead, we incorporate humor, hope, and a range of emotions. We use uppercase humor extensively during character development, then sparingly to keep audiences on their toes.”

In “The Collector,” Arkin O’Brien is employed as a handyman for a wealthy family. Due to his wife encountering financial difficulties, Arkin resorts to burglary. He attempts to rob the Chase household, unaware that someone has already broken in before him. A cunning assassin has set up intricate and deadly traps throughout the house, ensuring the downfall of any intruder. Though critics were not overly fond of it (the film holds a 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), the production managed to rake in over $10 million from an initial investment of only $3 million.
I was excitedly looking forward to “The Collector,” originally intended as a prequel to the “Saw” series, revealing John Kramer’s backstory before his transformation into Jigsaw. With Josh Stewart delivering an enthralling performance as Arkin in both films, it seemed poised to become a new slasher franchise. As we wait for Dunstan to complete work on “#AMFAD: All My Friends Are Dead,” I eagerly anticipate the start of production for “The Collected” and hope to see Stewart reprise his role once more.
