As a long-time Marvel fan and avid gamer, I’ve seen my fair share of ups and downs when it comes to the adaptation of comic book stories to the big screen. With each new release, there’s always a sense of excitement and anticipation, but also a healthy dose of skepticism. The recent criticisms over CGI in some Marvel Studios films have left many fans, including myself, feeling uneasy about the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot.

Some Marvel Studios’ latest films have drawn criticism from fans due to subpar CGI. With the upcoming introduction of The Fantastic Four into the MCU, there are worries about how well Mr. Fantastic, the Human Torch, Invisible Woman, and The Thing will be portrayed on screen. Kevin Feige directly addressed these concerns in a CinemaBlend interview.

For the past few weeks, Feige has been busy with back-to-back events: the upcoming release of “Deadpool” and “Wolverine” in cinemas, as well as Marvel Studios’ appearance at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. While fans are excitedly anticipating any updates about “The Fantastic Four” during the panel, Feige reassures them not to worry about the film. He stated:

As a big fan of Matt Shakman’s work, I can’t help but be impressed by his skillful use of visual effects in storytelling. For me, the key lies in making every element visually captivating – from the elongated scenes to The Thing’s rugged exterior, and even the flames. Yet, no matter how cool these visuals are, they pale in comparison to the true essence of the production: the characters and their relationships. With our talented cast now on board, we’re 90% there – focusing on the heart and soul of the movie.

Mr. Fantastic’s Multiverse of Madness Appearance Divided Fans

While the most famous iteration of Marvel’s first family is still their appearance in 2005’s The Fantastic Four and its sequel, the group also appeared in the ill-fated 2015 flop, and Mr. Fantastic, also known as Reed Richards, made a not so surprising appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

John Krasinski brought joy to numerous fans by embodying a multiverse edition of Mr. Fantastic in the 2022 film, “The Fantastic Four.” However, his role sparked controversy among some viewers who were displeased with his character’s “spaghetti” demise or felt he didn’t leave a significant mark on the movie. In an intense scene from “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” Wanda follows Doctor Strange and America Chavez into another universe, encountering an Illuminati team consisting of Professor X, Captain Marvel, Captain Carter, Black Bolt, and Mr. Fantastic. Despite having vanquished their Thanos, this group was no match for Wanda at her peak power. Consequently, as each member met their demise, Reed Richards experienced the limits of his elastic abilities being pushed to their extreme, ultimately leading to his death by being stretched too far.

While the CGI effects in “Multiverse of Madness” faced less backlash than those in films such as “Black Widow,” “Eternals’s” Pip the Troll post-credit scene, and “She Hulk: Attorney at Law,” some fans continue to expect more. According to Feige, Marvel Studios is dedicating significant effort to getting The Fantastic Four right, along with future films. It seems that Marvel’s extra time investment will yield impressive results in the near future.

The upcoming film featuring The Fantastic Four is slated for a July 25, 2025 release. Look forward to gaining more insights about it during Marvel Studios’ panel at SDCC on Saturday.
