Steph Curry Shows Comedy Chops, Makes Scripted TV Debut in Peacock’s ‘Mr. Throwback’ Trailer

As a devoted basketball fan and fervent supporter of the Golden State Warriors, I am absolutely thrilled to see Steph Curry expanding his horizons beyond the court and into the world of comedy. His appearance in Peacock’s “Mr. Throwback” marks an exciting new chapter in his already impressive career.

In spite of being a star NBA player for the Golden State Warriors, Steph Curry is excited to display his comedic skills in the trailer for “Mr. Throwback” on Peacock, which came out on Wednesday.

Universal Television has given Curry an opportunity to take on the role of a comedic character in their new mockumentary series, marking his debut in scripted television. The show is scheduled to make its premiere on August 8.

In this comedy, Adam Pally portrays Danny Grossman, a struggling memorabilia dealer seeking forgiveness. He aims to reconnect with his former sixth-grade basketball teammate, basketball star Curry (played by the real-life Curry himself).

In “Mr. Throwback,” Curry intends to assist his middle school friend in seeking redemption. At one point in the trailer, he suggests, “Let’s make a documentary about it.” This leads them on a joyful journey, as they travel on Curry’s private jet and share pre-game drinks, which are referred to as “placenta-ritas,” in the company of their old horse placenta concoctions.

On Saturday Night Live, Ego Nwodim portrays the filmmaker guiding a documentary production that aims to revive Grossman’s past experiences from the sixth grade, or possibly something more strategically suggested based on the trailer’s hints.

“People are drawn to tales of redemption, but there’s something even more captivating about a spectacle, as Nwodim points out to the mockumentary viewers, with chaos both on and off the court unfolding before us. The Peacock show is overseen by executive producers Curry, Caspe, Matthew Libman, Daniel Libman, Peyton, and Pally.”

Curry, a successful Hollywood filmmaker through Unanimous Media and his collaborations, is currently working with David Henrie’s Cedar Hill on the comedy feature “Trick Shot,” which centers around basketball. In addition to this project, Curry has taken on the role of executive producer for the Netflix animated series “Good Times.”

Last year, Apple TV+ premiered the sports documentary Stephen Curry: Underrated, with him as its main subject.
