Epic Games to bring Fortnite to AltStore, remove the battle royale from Samsung Galaxy Store and more in latest move

  • Epic Games has unveiled new details on their mobile storefront coming to the EU on iOS
  • They’ve also announced that they will be removing their games from the Samsung Galaxy Store
  • You can expect the recent changes that allow third-party app stores in the EU to affect this

Recently, it feels like just a short time has passed since we discussed Epic Games planning to launch on mobile and the controversy surrounding Fortnite’s developer. However, things have taken another turn now. Epic Games is now making their mobile catalog available through AltStore on iOS in Europe, while simultaneously removing it from the Samsung Galaxy Store.

Epic Games has announced that they will remove their games from Samsung devices as a form of protest against Samsung’s ban on side-loading apps. Additionally, Epic unveiled new terms for their upcoming EU store on iOS, which includes a 12% fee for transactions they handle and no charges for third-party payments – a policy that previously led to conflicts with Apple.

In the coming days, Epic intends to reveal compatibility with at least two additional third-party app markets. It’s expected that these new partners will be based in the EU. This decision to terminate relationships with other app stores represents a major shift, but is it a profitable choice?

One for all, all for one

Although Epic’s announcement about the topic is excitingly optimistic, we remain somewhat skeptical in our perspective. Keep in mind, there’s a significant gap between smaller development teams and the massive Unreal Engine corporation. Regardless, if they manage to pull it off as planned, this could represent a groundbreaking shift for mobile gaming (a deliberate pun).

Despite this, cutting ties with “authorized” marketplaces such as the Samsung Galaxy Store marks a significant step for Epic Games. However, since their apps have been eliminated from the iOS App Store and Google Play Store, which are used by many more people, this action might not make much of a difference to Epic.

As a seasoned gamer with a diverse taste in video games, I understand that not every title resonates with everyone. While Fortnite has undeniably taken the gaming world by storm, I realize that it may not be for everyone. If you’re feeling indifferent towards it or simply prefer other genres, allow me to suggest an alternative.
