Eddie Redmayne’s portrayal of the elusive assassin, known only as the Jackal, promises to deliver a masterclass in acting and suspense.
In “Peacock’s new thriller series, The Day of the Jackal,” Eddie Redmayne, an Oscar-winning actor, portrays the titular assassin with an allure and danger that escapes Europe’s most rigorous law enforcement agencies. His character dons cunning disguises, harbors a questionable moral compass, and executes with chilling accuracy.
According to critically acclaimed author Frederick Forsyth’s 1971 novel “The Day of the Jackal,” a new Peacock original series will be released this fall. In this adaptation, Redmayne portrays a skilled assassin, known as “the Jackal.” He faces off against a formidable adversary from the law enforcement side – a clever and persistent British intelligence officer named Bianca, played by Lashana Lynch who has previously appeared in Marvel films and the movie “Bob Marley: One Love.”

On Thursday, November 7, “The Day of the Jackal” will make its debut exclusively on Peacock, with Redmayne serving as an executive producer along with Lynch. additionally producing are Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant from “Downton Abbey.” This series, divided into ten parts, can be streamed on the Peacock app.
In a new extensive conversation with Vanity Fair, Redmayne and Lynch both expressed their excitement about portraying intricate adversaries intent on thwarting each other’s plans. As Redmayne shared, “They possess a complicated moral code and commit heinous acts, yet they are also incredibly gifted.” The allure of these characters lies in being attracted and put off by them at the same time.
Lynch hinted at an intriguing clash between the show’s contrasting natural elements – one potentially explosive – as she referred to the two opposing forces. “We were like passing ships in the night,” she shared, attributing their intense preparation through rigorous behind-the-scenes workouts to the exceptional on-screen connection they developed.
“Lynch and I exchanged looks, both feeling the weight of our upcoming task. ‘How’s your preparation going?’ I asked. ‘I’m drained,’ he replied. ‘Me too,’ I sympathized. ‘So we’ll be exhausted together, then?’ ‘Perfectly fine by me,’ Lynch agreed.”
Based on the sneak peek images provided, Redmayne had the opportunity to experiment with various appearances as the Jackal, skillfully donning convincing disguises for his cunning, ever-changing character. “I adore acting because it allows me to transform not only how I appear but also my voice,” he shared. “We definitely had ample opportunities to be creative.”
