The 2024 Paris Olympic cycling events have begun! Today, France’s Pauline Ferrand-Prévot and Great Britain’s Thomas Pidcock claimed the top spots in the women’s and men’s mountain bike competitions respectively.

The BMX freestyle and cycling competitions carry on in France at Trocadéro, Pont Alexandre III, La Concorde, Elancourt Hill, and other venues. BMX freestyle events begin on July 30, road cycling starts on Aug. 3, and track cycling kicks off on Aug. 5.)

Approximately 50 BMX riders and 370 track and road cyclists are expected to participate in this year’s Olympics. Among them, there will be 190 track cyclists competing in various events such as sprint (individual, team, and keirin) and endurance (Madison, omnium, and team pursuit). Additionally, 180 road cyclists will race for the gold medal. For the first time in Olympic history, an equal number of men and women cyclists will compete, fulfilling Union Cycliste Internationale’s goal of gender equality.

For those on the West Coast, most cycling events kick off very early in the morning. The men’s road cycling competition starts as early as 2 a.m. PT on Aug. 3, while BMX freestyling follows between 4 to 7 a.m. PT. If you’re not an early bird, fear not!
