As a seasoned gamer of life with over three decades under my belt, I must say the news about Frasier’s return to Cheers has been a rollercoaster ride of anticipation and disappointment. Growing up, I remember the laughter that filled our home every time Dad watched Cheers and later, Frasier. So, hearing that the iconic bar is no more was like receiving a letter from a dear friend saying their beloved dog had passed on.
Fans who love the show Frasier have been keeping their fingers crossed that the revival series might bring back the character Frasier to his old hangout, the Cheers bar. Unfortunately, Kelsey Grammer, who plays Frasier, has dashed those hopes, as while Season 2 may still welcome some familiar faces from the past, it will definitively not include the iconic bar itself.
Frasier Crane initially made his appearance in Season 3 of the well-known sitcom “Cheers”. Over time, he became more popular than Shelley Long’s character Diane, who was initially introduced as his rebound boyfriend. This popularity led to a spin-off series for Frasier. Recently, fans have been curious if Crane might pay a visit to the old bar and catch up with some familiar faces. However, unfortunately for them, the bar is now closed. Grammer shared this information with USA Today, adding that the co-creator James Burrow agrees with this assessment.
“He deserves our reverence, and ‘Frasier’ seems like it was never here but existed somewhere else. Unfortunately, both he and the bar are no longer with us.”
Although this recent development seems to have laid the rumors to rest and sparked excitement about revisiting the old location, writer Kevin Levine had earlier expressed his view that the bar continues to operate, attracting its regular clientele as it always did. At the time, Levine also hinted that Crane’s failure to pay a visit to the bar was harmful to the reputation of both shows.
Kelsey Grammer Is Still Open to Reuniting With Old Faces
As much as I’d love to step back into the cozy confines of Cheers, it feels a bit unrealistic to think that the same bar, filled with the exact same people, would still be untouched by time. It’s almost like imagining a reunion where everyone’s lives have stagnated since the show ended. Frankly, such a return might just turn out to be a melancholic affair, hinting at the lack of growth or progress for our beloved characters.
Indeed, merely because the Cheers bar is no longer an option doesn’t mean it’s impossible for some of its old regulars, specifically Crane, to cross paths with each other in Frasier. Although Kelsey Grammer has expressed reservations about a revival series turning into a continuous parade of guest appearances, he harbors a desire for Crane and Sam (Ted Danson) to appear together at some point. In fact, while speaking to MovieWeb, Grammer hinted that one episode might evoke strong feelings of nostalgia.
In the second season, we have an exceptional show that evokes strong feelings of nostalgia. I can’t reveal much about it yet, but trust me, it’s a delightful watch. You’ll recognize some familiar faces and find yourself saying, ‘Oh my goodness, there they are!’ This is especially true for this particular show. It’s quite charming.
