Warzone sparks hopes of community-created POIs

Warzone sparks hopes of community-created POIs

As a seasoned Call of Duty player with over a decade under my belt, I’ve seen the evolution of battlefields from Nuketown to Verdansk and everything in between. While Verdansk has been an iconic battleground, it’s high time we shook things up a bit.

Creating fresh battle royale maps appears to pose a challenge for the Call of Duty team, as they haven’t managed to produce anything that competes with the legendary Verdansk yet.

It appears that even renowned developer Treyarch, known for crafting Blackout, has chosen not to introduce a fresh large-scale map this year. Instead, they seem to be focusing on re-releasing Verdansk (and delaying it as well). So, what if the community could pitch in and help?

Activision opens up Caldera blueprints as ‘learning resource’

Warzone sparks hopes of community-created POIs

Activision is making their Caldera map data available to the general public, with the aim of supporting academic studies, research, and artificial intelligence education.

As a seasoned geologist with years of fieldwork under my belt, I find the data on Caldera formation fascinating. With over one billion assets at my disposal, I can delve deep into the geological processes that shaped this natural wonder. Additionally, the behavioral patterns exhibited by players moving around the map provide valuable insights into human movement and decision-making in various environments. Observing hundreds of popular paths, whether it’s landing at Peak and taking flight or starting on the outskirts and rotating inward, sheds light on how people navigate and adapt to their surroundings.

In simple terms, this implies that Activision now has the opportunity to gain insights from scholars regarding potential modifications and enhancements. This knowledge could prove beneficial for their future endeavors. Furthermore, it creates intriguing prospects for user-generated Points of Interest (POIs) as well.

Warzone fans ponder map tool kits after Caldera data arrives

It’s intriguing! If they offered a shared development kit, regular developers could potentially create their own Points of Interest (POIs) and contribute them to Activision. Think about the excitement of exploring maps filled with ever-changing POIs, all crafted by the gaming community themselves.

Fortnite experienced a phase where it incorporated user-created landmarks onto its map, such as “The Block”, prior to Creative mode being revitalized and Unreal Engine 5 projects evolving into fully-fledged content realms. Consequently, fans of Call of Duty are eager for an opportunity to contribute as well.

Introducing a toolkit to this dataset would empower fans to modify various Points of Interest (POIs) using provided resources, thereby contributing to more intelligent landscape designs for Activision in the long run. Additionally, it could function as a layout template similar to Fortnite Creative, enabling users to create and utilize new POIs.

Custom maps have been on the wishlist for Call of Duty fans for some time, but maybe a Warzone POI mapper might be just as popular.
