“A film producer tried to force himself on me” recalls Mita Vashisht

In various Hindi films such as Chandni, Dil Se, Ghulam, Taal, and Good Luck Jerry, Mita Vashisht played supporting characters. This actress, who continues to embrace the title of a theater artist, shared her encounter with the casting couch in the Tamil film industry.

During her conversation with The Lallantop, the seasoned artist expressed that a movie producer from the Tamil film industry made unwanted advances towards her. She also mentioned an incident from years ago when she was attending the Chennai Film Festival. A Telugu director there offered her the main role in one of his films.

She shared that he gave her the main part in the production and mentioned that she would need to reside with him for two months. Initially, she assumed that the director’s English was unclear, and he meant she had to stay at his house to develop her character. However, when he emphasized his statement, she rose from her seat and began exiting the location. “He attempted to prevent my departure, but I found a way to escape,” she confessed.

During the same interview, Mita openly declared to directors early in her career that she wouldn’t trade roles for personal favors or relationships. Some directors didn’t appreciate this stance and dropped her from their projects. Yet, there were others who admired her integrity and offered her roles in their films instead.
