I Know What You Did Last Summer Legacy Star Is Ready to Return for Sequel

As a long-time fan of the chilling and suspenseful “I Know What You Did Last Summer” franchise, I must say that the recent developments have me all sorts of excited! Being a ’90s kid, I vividly remember staying up late to watch the original movie on VHS (yes, I’m showing my age here), and being completely terrified yet captivated by the storyline.

The “I Know What You Did Last Summer” follow-up is picking up momentum with an announced release date, a revealed cast list, and a confirmed start date for production. A successful legacy sequel relies on a clear link to the original film’s narrative or characters, and although Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., stars of the first movie, have acknowledged receiving the script for the sequel, another actor has only recently become aware of the project. However, she’s eager to confront the fisherman once more.

In an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter, I (as a fan) found myself excitedly discussing the upcoming sequel of Descendants set to air on Disney Channel. Interestingly, during our conversation, the remarkable Brandy, who starred alongside Hewitt and Prinze Jr. in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer back in 1998, shared that she was actually unaware a sequel was even being made!

“I didn’t know Sony was putting that together. That’s interesting.”

Brandy openly acknowledged that, unlike some other actors, she was honestly unaware of the project (previously hiding their involvement in franchise revivals). However, she expressed enthusiasm about rejoining the series if given another chance for more thrilling slasher adventures.

Hey there! Give me a shout as soon as you can, ’cause I made it through that flick alive! I might’ve been battered and bruised, but I stood strong till the end. Nope, I didn’t meet my maker in that movie. So, Jennifer, Freddie, let’s catch up when you get a moment.

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer Was Recently Revealed to Be Canon for the Legacy Sequel

It seems that the call to Brandy might persist, given Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s recent confirmation that “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” will be considered canonical for her upcoming sequel. Contrary to a rumor circulating on social media, Brandy did survive at the end, alongside Julle James played by Hewitt and Ray Bronson portrayed by Prinze Jr. This survival suggests that Karla might have some role in the storyline, explaining why the original film would be considered canon for the sequel.

The upcoming sequel to the original series is starting to materialize as Camila Mendes, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King have joined the cast. Although Hewitt and Prinze Jr. haven’t been confirmed yet, hints suggest their participation. Hewitt expressed her excitement about the project, saying she feels “overwhelmed and grateful,” while Prinze Jr. mentioned he’s “motivated” to rejoin, but until contracts are signed, nothing is set in stone.

Under the guidance of director Danny Cannon, and picking up a year after the events from 1997’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, this sequel unfolds with the vengeful fisherman (Muse Watson) pursuing the two teenagers who had left him for dead. Determined to exact his revenge, he tracks them down to a tropical island resort where a series of gruesome murders occur. Alongside Muse Watson, the film features Mekhi Phifer, Jennifer Esposito, Bill Cobbs, Jack Black and Jeffrey Combs.
