Jeremy Renner Says He Blew Up Robert Downey Jr.’s Phone After Doctor Doom Reveal at Comic-Con

As a gamer with a heart full of Marvel memories spanning over two decades, this news about Robert Downey Jr.’s transformation into Doctor Doom sent shockwaves through my timeline, much like an Avengers’ battle scene!

Jeremy Renner was equally surprised as Marvel enthusiasts when Robert Downey Jr. announced at Comic-Con that he’d be portraying Doctor Doom in the upcoming pair of Avengers films.

As a long-time fan of both the Mayor of Kingstown and the Avengers franchise, I was genuinely surprised to hear that my beloved actor friend would be playing the villain in the upcoming Avengers movies, Doomsday (2026) and Secret Wars (2027). Given our history of working together and the bond we’ve formed over the years, it seems almost unimaginable for him to take on such a sinister role. However, I trust his acting prowess and am eagerly looking forward to seeing him bring this villainous character to life on the big screen.

“Renner, portraying Hawkeye in the Marvel universe, remarked that this individual didn’t speak to him, yet they remain close friends.”

Robert Downey Jr., who had played the cherished character Tony Stark/Iron Man for over a decade before his self-sacrificing act in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame”, stunned fans at the San Diego convention on Saturday as he revealed he will be portraying Victor von Doom. Yet, there is still uncertainty about how Downey’s interpretation of this villain will fit within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Renner excitedly reached out to Downey Jr., announcing his excitement over the casting news on their original Avengers group chat, which also includes Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, and Mark Ruffalo, by sending him numerous messages.

“The host of Rennervations exclaimed, ‘What’s happening here? Are you keeping something from us?’ They were unsure, but expressed enthusiasm, saying, ‘This is thrilling news! I’m genuinely, extremely excited about it.'”

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “When folks queried if I might reprise my role as Hawkeye in the upcoming Avengers films helmed by the Russo brothers, I kept things cryptic, yet hinted that the possibility is intriguing.”

The actor admitted that, given how much fans love the Avenger films and the numerous delightful characters in them, it will likely be difficult to assemble everyone. He suggested that they might need to plan it out on a week-by-week basis due to scheduling conflicts.

Renner expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m looking forward to it. Time will tell. I believe we’ll likely move forward with it. We’ve got some work ahead to understand it better. Everything is fresh and unexpected. It’s just been announced, so now we need to start mapping things out.”
