Kobe Bryant's Personal Locker at Staples Center Auctions for $2.9 Million USD

As a lifelong basketball fanatic and die-hard Lakers supporter, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions as I witness the $2.9 million sale of Kobe Bryant’s personal locker from the Staples Center. The sheer magnitude of this sale is almost as breathtaking as one of Kobe’s legendary game-winning shots.

Locker once belonging to basketball legend Kobe Bryant, which he personally utilized at the Staples Center, was purchased at an auction for a whopping $2.9 million USD.

At Sotheby’s, the sale of a Kobe Bryant sports locker was confirmed, marking it as the most costly sports locker ever sold at an auction and the third-priciest item in a Kobe Bryant memorabilia auction. The locker comes with photographic evidence dating from the 2003-2004 NBA season to the 2015-2016 season. Initially estimated to sell for between $1 million USD and $1.5 million USD, it soared above this range during a competitive 20-minute bidding duel among four interested parties.

Brahm Wachter, who oversees modern collectables at Sotheby’s, stated, “Kobe Bryant’s locker isn’t just a standard memorabilia piece; it’s a deeply significant artifact from one of basketball’s most legendary players. The high price today underscores not only Kobe’s lasting impact but also the extraordinary uniqueness of this particular item.”

The locker was saved by a maintenance worker during the Staples Center renovation in 2018 and was privately sold to an American collector, who also collected Bryant’s original locker nameplate.

A portion of the sale will directly benefit The Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation.
