As a long-time fan who’s seen every episode of “Young Sheldon” more times than I care to admit (and yes, I even watched the Christmas specials), I wholeheartedly agree that Season 2 is the show’s pièce de résistance. The way it weaves emotional depth into its humor is nothing short of genius, much like our beloved Sheldon himself!

The popular prequel series “Young Sheldon” concluded with a strong finish. As per IMDb ratings, the sitcom’s three best-rated episodes were from its seventh and final season. This season, which led to the emotional demise of George Cooper Sr. (played by Lance Barber), was particularly significant because the show had been gradually leading towards this tragic event since its inception. The seventh season also signified a new beginning for Sheldon (portrayed by Iain Armitage) as he embarks on a journey to California, while the Cooper family in Medford grapples with life after George’s absence.

As a devoted fan, I must confess that while every season of “Young Sheldon” has its charm, it’s Season 2 that truly shines the brightest, according to the Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. In comparison, Season 6 is the lowest-ranked with a score of 75%, whereas Season 2 boasts an impressive 88%.

Although all previous seasons of “Young Sheldon” maintained strong viewership, Season 6 has been less favorably received by fans. A recurring point of criticism centers around the complex relationship between characters Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment), which forms a significant part of the season’s narrative. Initially, Mandy is pregnant with Georgie’s baby, yet their relationship remains strained at the start of the season. Fans have expressed frustration with the way their romance has unfolded. One fan even posted on Reddit asking for changes in the show, stating that the ongoing situation between Mandy and Georgie seems illogical. “Couldn’t they just make them an official couple already?” the fan wrote. However, it is not until the end of the season that Mandy finally agrees to marry Georgie.

Some “Young Sheldon” enthusiasts seem to believe that Season 6 didn’t quite live up to expectations, despite the fact that its Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score of 75% suggests it generally struck the right chords. However, it’s the show’s second season that continues to be cherished as viewers’ ultimate favorite.

In its second season, “Young Sheldon” stands out from its predecessor “The Big Bang Theory” with deeper, more emotional storylines. By this point, the show has settled into a rhythm that allows it to explore and expand on stories introduced in the first season. A notable shift in character dynamics unfolds when Sheldon, Missy (Raegan Revord), and their family are involved in the twin study in Episode 5 of Season 2, titled “A Research Study and Czechoslovakian Wedding Pastries.” This episode sheds light on Mary (Zoe Perry) and George’s realization that their daughter feels neglected compared to her brilliant brother Sheldon. Despite its somber tone, this episode plays a crucial role in developing Missy’s character for the rest of the series, as it highlights a recurring theme of loneliness that she experiences throughout each season.

In Season 2, Wallace Shawn’s character, John Sturgis, truly makes an impact. At the start of the season, John and Connie (Annie Potts) begin a romantic journey, but by the end, John experiences intense emotional hardships. The series effectively highlights mental health concerns without resorting to mockery, making it a crucial plotline not just for Season 2, but also throughout all seven seasons.
