It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia's Charlie Day Shares Exciting Season 17 Update That Also Kinda Makes Me Feel Extremely Old

As a fan who has been following the antics of “The Gang” for the past two decades, I can confidently say that the news of Season 17’s imminent arrival has me more excited than a squirrel on a nut-laden tree. It feels like just yesterday when I was huddled under my blanket, watching the first season in the wee hours of the night and laughing so hard that I almost rolled off my bed.

Though we may all share the disappointment over Rob McElhenney’s absence in the superhero comedy Deadpool & Wolverine, there’s a bright side: his character Ronald “Mac” McDonald will reappear in the upcoming season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Exact timing for this return isn’t confirmed yet, but co-star Charlie Day has given an update that brings hope and makes me, as a longtime viewer, feel a bit older.

The principal actors of the long-running series FXX, alongside Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson, and Danny DeVito, have gained significant popularity and have been juggling multiple TV shows and films over the last decade. However, we no longer need to anxiously anticipate news about Season 17, as Day recently posted on Instagram:

“Exactly 19 years ago, this gaming journey of mine took a hilarious turn as these three jokers debuted their show. Ratings were low and reviews were harsh, but John Landgraf and the team at FXNetworks stood by us. To them, and to the amazing fans who’ve supported us all these years, I’m grateful. Can’t wait to get back in the writers room next week for season 17! Keep it real with @alwayssunnyfxx on @hulu.”

We’re just a week away from Charlie Day joining the writing room for Season 17 of “It’s Always Sunny.” It doesn’t imply that other writers haven’t been working on storylines and ideas, but it does mean that Charlie Kelly himself will be there participating in the planning process.

Regardless of how it pans out, his participation undoubtedly accelerates our progress, and I’m eagerly anticipating him contributing more updates upon his arrival, giving us glimpses into the exciting concepts for Season 17’s episodes, both those that will and won’t materialize. A simple “Lethal Weapon 7” announcement would set everything in motion.

As we eagerly watch, it becomes clear that many viewers who began enjoying It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia on FX during its debut season are now nearing their midlife years. I still recall vividly the moment when I watched, right around Season 1, bursting into uncontrollable laughter from my bed.

Reflecting on a memorable moment, what solidifies the timeline for me is experiencing uproarious laughter in all four homes I’ve lived in since then, thanks to The Gang’s outrageous antics. It seems age has made me more settled, as even the thought of moving before It’s Always Sunny wraps up leaves my pulse racing.

At present, I’m not confined to that situation, so I have the liberty to unwind by sipping Four Walls whiskey while catching up on old It’s Always Sunny episodes through Hulu. By the way, I thought you might be interested in checking out the brand’s newest commercial spot.
