As I sat down to watch “Know Your Place,” I was immediately struck by the raw authenticity that radiated from the screen. Having spent many years in Seattle myself, I could feel the pulse of the city beating through every frame. The film’s director, Zia Mohajerjasbi, has a unique ability to capture the essence of Seattle, and more importantly, its people.
“Discover Your Path,” a contemporary drama unfolds in the bustling city of Seattle, Washington. Fifteen-year-old Eritrean American boy, Robel Haile, undertakes a crucial errand – delivering a large and heavy suitcase across town to a sick family member in his parents’ homeland. He seeks help from his closest friend Fahmi Tadesse, and what starts as a straightforward task evolves into a citywide journey; a journey that involves deciphering directions for timely delivery, grappling with familial obligations, self-discovery, and the disorientation of belonging amidst Seattle’s ongoing urban development and economic displacement, in a place he’s always considered home.
