Raazi actor Ashwath Bhatt attacked by robbers in Istanbul; says ‘This was beyond anything I had imagined’

As a passionate admirer of Ashwath Bhatt, who has graced our screens with his captivating performances in films like Raazi and Sita Ramam, I must express my concern for his recent ordeal in Istanbul. The incident he faced is a stark reminder that even the most enchanting destinations can harbor unexpected dangers.

As your trusted lifestyle advisor, I’d like to share a less-than-ideal experience I recently had during my brief getaway to the enchanting city of Istanbul. Unfortunately, what was meant to be an enjoyable evening stroll around the vibrant Beyoglu district, particularly near the iconic Galata Tower, turned into a harrowing ordeal for me. On the fateful evening of August 4th, I found myself in the midst of an unexpected encounter with a group of robbers.

Though Bhatt’s friends had warned him about pickpockets in the vicinity, this particular incident took him by surprise. As Bhatt walked towards the Galata Tower, a man approached him with a chain in his hand. Before Bhatt could fully understand what was happening, the man struck him from behind. Looking back now, it seems likely that this was a group working together to steal Bhatt’s bag.

In a surprising turn of events, the actor from Mission Majnu didn’t immediately find the attacker unprepared but was left too bewildered to comprehend what had transpired. Ashwath later expressed, “I believe they hadn’t anticipated me resisting and fighting back.” He continued by revealing that just as the robber was attempting to grab his bag, a good Samaritan in a car intervened, stopping right when the crime was about to occur. The attacker then spoke something in Turkish and swiftly departed from the scene according to Bhatt.

As a lifestyle expert, I found myself in an unexpected situation yesterday while driving my cab. I witnessed a well-known actor with a visible wound and felt compelled to intervene. It’s disheartening that incidents like these can occur even in popular tourist destinations. Despite being urged by others to stay clear and not report it to the authorities, I couldn’t help but feel that such an encounter should not be dismissed as ‘unnecessary’. Instead, I felt it was my duty to guide him towards seeking help from the police.

“I’ve traversed various continents, from the Middle East to Europe, but my recent journey through Turkey took me by surprise. While many associate Turkey with romance on the silver screen, I learned that ignoring crime only fuels its escalation. Warnings about pickpockets were commonplace, yet nothing prepared me for this experience – it surpassed anything I had ever imagined.”

Immediately following the event, Ashwath sought assistance from a police cruiser, and they advised him to file a report with the tourism police. The tourism police then guided him to another precinct, but according to the latest update from TOI, no official complaint has been made with the officers at this time.
