As a conscientious observer of the Bollywood industry and a follower with a keen interest in the lives and careers of its stars, I find it commendable that Imran Khan has shown such self-awareness and remorse over a scene from his film “Kidnap.” His admission that the scene where his character appears to sexually assault Minissha Lamba‘s character was unnecessary and uncomfortable is a testament to his growth as an artist and a person.
In the action-thriller movie “Kidnap” from 2008, Bollywood star Imran Khan played a character named Kabir Devendra Sharma, who abducted Minissha Lamba. This film is notable because Khan had already made his debut in the romantic movie “Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na.” Both movies were directed by Sanjay Gadhvi.
In an interview with We Are Yuvaa on YouTube, Imran Khan confessed that one particular scene in the movie seemed superfluous to him. When asked if there’s anything from his acting career he wishes he hadn’t done, Imran reflected back and discussed a moment where his character came close to sexually assaulting Minissha Lamba’s character.
In a conversation, Imran Khan expressed discomfort about a specific scene in the film “Kidnap”. He mentioned that following the romantic song Mausam, his character is shown forcefully returning the woman to a confined space. The scene initially appears as if he might sexually assault her. However, he stops and withdraws. Imran Khan stated that this scene was not essential and found it incredibly challenging to film.
Following the filming of those specific sequences, the actor from Delhi Belly returned home that evening and experienced severe distress. He confessed, “I couldn’t sleep, I vomited,” as he found himself unable to shake off the events. The following morning, he approached his co-star, actress Minissha, who bore dark, purple bruises on her arm – a result of where he had gripped her.
Upon witnessing them, the actor from Luck became startled and exclaimed, “Oh my goodness, what have I just accomplished?” He then sat her down to discuss his emotions following the filming of those scenes. However, Lamba remained calm. She even reassured him that she never felt uneasy. Instead, it was the intense nature of the scene that they performed convincingly, she explained. Despite her words easing his concerns, he’s still not fully at ease.
