Aamir Khan gets warm welcome from CJI D Y Chandrachud as Laapataa Ladies gets screened at SC; latter says 'don't want a stampede in the court...'

As an ardent fan of Aamir Khan, witnessing his influence extend beyond the silver screen into the hallowed chambers of the Supreme Court is nothing short of awe-inspiring! The man who once lost his way on a train journey in real life (Lagaan reference, anyone?) is now guiding the path of gender sensitization for our esteemed judges.

Today, August 9, Kiran Rao’s directorial production “Laapataa Ladies,” backed by Aamir Khan, was exhibited at the Supreme Court of India. This slice-of-life rural drama was shown as part of a gender awareness initiative for judges, their families, and court personnel. Prior to the screening, Aamir Khan was cordially received by the Chief Justice of India, D Y Chandrachud.

According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), upon his arrival at the Supreme Court for the screening of Laapataa Ladies, Aamir Khan was warmly greeted by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud. The Chief Justice stated, “We’re happy to welcome Mr Aamir Khan at the court for the movie screening. Director Kiran Rao will be joining us shortly.”

Previously, I learned through a decree from the Supreme Court that the showing of this film is indeed one of the events scheduled for their 75th anniversary celebration. It’s like my heart skipped a beat when I found out!

“The film ‘Laapataa Ladies’, focusing on gender equality, is scheduled to be shown at the Auditorium in C-block, Administrative Building Complex on Friday, August 9, 2024. This event is part of celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of the Supreme Court of India,” the communication stated, as reported by PTI.

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but share this exciting tidbit! ANI posted a video featuring none other than the legendary Aamir Khan in deep discussion with Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, alongside his esteemed companion Kiran. Take a peek if you haven’t already: [link to the video]

Following the film’s debut, Kiran Rao conducted an interview with Law Today on the courthouse grounds. She gleefully shared her contentment about her movie being screened at the Supreme Court, saying, “I feel so fortunate to be here.” When asked if future projects might involve a courtroom drama based on this enriching experience, Kiran replied, “Oh, I’d adore that! I was captivated by the atmosphere and could have spent all day there. So, it’s possible that someday I might.”

Simultaneously, the movie titled “Laapataa Ladies,” directed by Kiran Rao under Aamir Khan Productions, is set in rural India in 2001. Hilarity unfolds when two newlywed brides get lost during a train trip. The film stars Sprash Shrivastava, Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Chhaya Kadam, Ravi Kishan, and others. At the moment, it can be found streaming on Netflix.
