As a lifelong connoisseur of all things vampiric, I am positively thrilled at the prospect of Sam Reid’s rockstar Lestat de Lioncourt taking center stage in Season 3 of Interview with the Vampire. Having immersed myself in Anne Rice’s literary Vampire Chronicles for decades, I can attest that Lestat’s transformation into a musical maestro is not only fitting but also long overdue.
Actor Sam Reid, portraying the character Lestat, might be in store for a double album’s worth of triumph in Season 3 of “Interview with the Vampire.” It’s important to note that the atmosphere and, indeed, the narrative perspective undergo significant shifts in the 1985 sequel to the 1976 novel “Interview with the Vampire,” which is called “The Vampire Lestat.” This change was characteristic of Anne Rice’s enduring vampire series.
In the upcoming series, Lestat de Lioncourt, played by Reid, will become the main focus, moving into the limelight from Jacob Anderson’s Louis de Pointe du Lac. Showrunner Rolin Jones hinted at an increased amount of music that could potentially fill a Vampire Chronicles double album. During a conversation at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con (as reported by The Wrap), Rolin mentioned:
In truth, deep within us all, lies a hidden ambition to create a truly remarkable double album that can stand alongside other great works.
As a longtime fan of Anne Rice’s “Vampire Chronicles,” I was thrilled to learn about AMC’s announcement for Lestat’s rockstar transformation in Season 3. Having read and reread the books numerous times, I can confidently say that de Lioncourt’s musical talents have always been a central part of his character.
“Let’s tread lightly with this discussion. Imagine Lestat, an ageless character, browsing through eight decades of music on a modern device like an iPad. He’d be saying something like ‘Yes, yes, no, no, yes, yes, this, this…’ He doesn’t have to be a contemporary man from 2026. Instead, he’s a connoisseur of the last three centuries, with impeccable taste and an ability to present it gracefully.”
Delainey Hayles’ Surprising Appearance at Comic-Con
Enthusiasts are buzzing over the sneak peek for season 3 of “Interview with the Vampire,” hinting at a more substantial role for Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) in the AMC series. Notably, author Anne Rice, before her passing, often shared that after penning the original narrative, it was the character of Lestat who continued to speak to her. Thus, Lestat, also known as the Brat Prince, is set to take center stage in the engaging storylines, overshadowing Louis. At a recent Comic-Con event, Sam Reid added further intrigue about season 3’s portrayal of de Lioncourt.
“Observe, that’s Lestat the vampire.
Among the captivating highlights of this year’s Comic-Con, where an “Interview with the Vampire” panel graced the schedule, was the unexpected presence of Delainey Hayles in San Diego. You see, fans of the series will recall that her character Claudia met a tragic end at the hands of the Théâtre des Vampires company in Paris. Yet, there she was, participating in the annual gathering and reminiscing about embodying her beloved character. During our chat, Hayles shared:
Her struggle to find her identity resonated deeply with me, as she seems lost in the world that surrounds her – a world she accepts but didn’t choose.
Hayles came in and replaced Interview with the Vampire Season 1’s Claudia, who was portrayed by Bailey Bass, but did not return for Season 2. And seeing as how this year’s Comic-Con panel was arguably more of a tease for Season 3, could Hayles presence mean Claudia is coming back through flashbacks to haunt her parents, Lestat and Louis? Or could Anne Rice’s TV Immortal Universe be getting ready to pull an American Horror Story? AHS is famous for using the same cast members from one season to another, but as completely different characters. Could this be how Hayles returns?
Hayles’ captivating and outstanding performance strongly suggests she should reprise her role in Season 3 of “Interview with the Vampire.” Moreover, it’s no secret to devoted fans that a character known as the Queen of the Damned will soon emerge within the Immortal Universe. Given that Akasha is yet to be cast, Hayles could undoubtedly relish the opportunity to portray this intriguing character.
