Actor Mel Gibson is known for openly sharing his views on different subjects, so it’s not too surprising that he once humorously identified someone in Hollywood as being similar to the antichrist during an interview for a 1999 documentary called “Hollywood Conversations.” During this conversation with director Mike Figgis, they discussed their experiences working with actor Christopher Walken. They both confessed that they felt a bit intimidated by him when reading scripts together for various projects.
Figgis mentioned that Walken had flown in to read for him, which went poorly. “But he didn’t need a plane, right?” Gibson laughed. Gibson recalled encountering Walken at a rooftop gathering. “He floated in. Sideways, through a crowd of people. He was wearing black … and it was like one of those old vampire movies where they don’t walk, they glide.” Gibson admitted to being scared by Walken as they swapped stories about medieval torture, which turned into a battle between them to point out the ugliest and most horrifying story they knew. “Then he left, and I wanted to leave, because I knew that I didn’t want to work with him, and it was getting scary.” Gibson recalled turning from the conversation and noticing a large, illuminated trio of red sixes posted at a nearby building. Mimicking looking back and forth between object and actor, Gibson laughingly said, “I thought, ‘Oh no. Chris Walken is the antichrist!'”
It’s evident once more that Figgis and Gibson are joking, yet they both express admiration and a hint of fear towards the acting icon. Interestingly, it appears they aren’t alone in feeling this way when collaborating with Walken, as others have also confessed to finding him somewhat intimidating.

In a chat on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” actors Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, and Florence Pugh shared their experiences working with Christopher Walken on “Dune: Part Two.” Zendaya mentioned that Walken’s powerful presence created a more serious vibe on set, as his influence was felt deeply by everyone. Chalamet, Butler, and others like Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin even confessed they were too intimidated to approach him. Interestingly, it seems Walken doesn’t typically prepare for his acting roles, which might add to his enigmatic aura.
It appears that despite Walken’s tough facade, Pugh managed to form friendships with him. She described the rest of the cast as being like shy schoolboys around Walken, but she found him to be surprisingly playful during breaks in filming. They even discussed Walken’s favorite donuts, a topic that held particular interest since his family owned a bakery. This just goes to show that even the most intimidating individuals can have a gentle side.
