As I reflect on John Abraham’s journey from humble beginnings to Bollywood stardom, I find myself in awe of his resilience and determination. From earning Rs 6,500 as his first salary after an MBA to participating in a beauty pageant judged by the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Karan Johar, and Karan Kapoor, John’s story is one for the books.


John Abraham, who is preparing for the release of his upcoming movie Vedaa, has been active in the Hindi film industry for more than twenty years now. He initially appeared on screen in the film Jism back in 2003, and since then, he’s explored action and comedy roles as well. It was his role as a villain in Yash Raj Films’ Dhoom that brought him widespread acclaim. In an interesting revelation, John shared that his first salary after completing an MBA was just Rs 6,500, and he would spend only Rs 6 on lunch back in the year 1999.

In the recent podcast by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, actor John Abraham discussed his challenging times prior to joining Bollywood. After obtaining his MBA, John disclosed that he started working with a company earning approximately Rs 6,500 per month. He later advanced within this organization, becoming a media planner in an advertising agency.

Moving on with our discussion, the Vedaa actor mentioned that subsequently, he took part in the Gladrags Manhunt Contest in 1999, which was judged by Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Karan Johar, and Karan Kapoor.

John, who earned a total of Rs 11,500 as his monthly salary, vividly recollected triumphing in the contest and collecting a cash prize of Rs 40,000. The performer vividly remembered being astonished by the sizeable winnings.

The 51-year-old actor was subsequently questioned about his spending habits and how he sustained himself on a tight budget. He disclosed, “My expenses were quite low back then. My lunch consisted of just two rotis (flatbread) and dal fry, which cost around 6 rupees and 25 paisa in the year 1999.”

Vedaa Star recollected that he usually ate breakfast at home and then skipped dinner because he often worked late at the office. Besides food, his costs primarily consist of petrol for his motorcycle. John reminisced about when he didn’t have a cellphone, and instead, relied on a train pass to get around.

At the start of his acting career, the performer shared that he planned to put his earnings into mutual funds focused on stocks.

Under the guidance of director Nikhhil Advani, the movie titled “Vedaa” is planned for release on August 15, which happens to be Independence Day. In this film, you’ll find Tamannaah Bhatia, Sharvari Wagh, and Abhishek Banerjee playing significant characters. The upcoming action-drama is rumored to be based on real-life occurrences.
