SEAL Team Is Ending with Season Seven Because of David Boreanaz's Health

As a longtime admirer and supporter of David Boreanaz, I have to express my deep respect for his unwavering dedication to his craft. The man has been giving us hit after hit since his days as Angel on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and it’s clear that he never backs down from a challenge.

David Boreanaz, famously known for his role as the soulful vampire on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” since 1997, has consistently proven to be one of the busiest actors in television. After gaining popularity as a talented actor, he’s worked tirelessly on one successful TV series after another with little rest. His current series, “SEAL Team,” is wrapping up after seven seasons, and Boreanaz has shared that his physical health is the primary reason for its conclusion. The next episode airs on August 18, and the final episode will be released on October 6.

In a conversation with People, Boreanaz discussed the conclusion of SEAL Team. Due to their commitment to portray the series as realistically as possible, he and the other cast members found themselves pushed to their physical limits. The program is renowned for its high-octane military action sequences, which demand rigorous training to achieve the perfect take. Boreanaz explained that his body could no longer handle it, and recounted a particular instance demonstrating the grueling nature of filming:

“At around ten feet in, I encountered a rock which caused my ankle to twist and make me fall flat on the ground. Despite my ankle swelling significantly, I had no choice but to continue. Navy SEALS teach you to endure pain, even in the face of severe injuries such as losing an arm, which they cope with by telling jokes. The experience is incredibly intense. Although I take good care of myself, there comes a time when my body doesn’t function as it once did… In the past four months, I have undergone four MRIs on various parts of my body, including knees, hips, and shoulders. This journey has been quite challenging.”

SEAL Team Began Its Life on CBS

In the TV show “SEAL Team,” a 55-year-old actor portrays Master Chief Special Warfare Operator Jason Hayes, leading Bravo Team, an elite Navy SEAL unit featured in the series. The drama, developed by Benjamin Cavell, chronicles the team’s high-risk missions around the globe, which often come with little warning. The narrative also delves into how these dangerous operations affect the families of the team members. First airing on CBS in 2017, the show later transitioned to Paramount+ streaming service in 2021. Over seven seasons and 107 episodes, the series has been produced.

Ever since his role as Angel in the popular supernatural show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” back in 1997, actor David Boreanaz hasn’t stopped working. After leaving the series for a spinoff, he starred in “Angel,” which ran for five seasons and 110 episodes until 2004. Instead of taking a break afterward, he swiftly moved on to play FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth on the Fox crime drama “Bones” from 2005 to 2017, spanning over 12 seasons and 246 episodes. After wrapping up “Bones,” Boreanaz joined the cast of “SEAL Team,” which premiered in 2017 and is now concluding its run.

Over the last four months, it seems like I’ve undergone four MRI scans – one each for my knees, hips, and shoulders. Quite an adventure, you could say!

Throughout his acting career, shows starring Boreanaz have garnered dedicated fanbases, but perhaps none are as passionate as those who adored Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff, Angel. The actor, far from dismissing the shows that catapulted him to stardom, acknowledged that his spinoff in particular was “intricate” and further stated,“I believe Angel remains somewhat underrated. It was a mature examination of action-oriented themes. Both of these shows have an enduring legacy.” Boreanaz also expressed interest in revisiting the character, stating:

“There exists a fanbase deeply enamored with Buffy and Angel, drawn to the magical realm they inhabit, appreciating its portals, makeup, and all its fantastical aspects. It’s undeniably intriguing to consider revisiting that universe, that setting.

Right now, you can stream the last season of “SEAL Team” on Paramount+. The upcoming episode will be aired on August 18th, and the final episode of the series is scheduled for October 6th.
