Korean Cheerleading Drama ‘Victory’ to Get North American Release

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for movies that resonate with real-life struggles and triumphs, I’m genuinely excited about the upcoming release of “Victory.” Having spent countless hours cheering on virtual teams in sports games, it’s refreshing to see a story that revolves around the spirit of camaraderie and determination embodied by cheerleaders.

The Korean cheerleading film titled “Victory” is set to hit U.S. movie theaters. Before its initial release in South Korea, the rights for a North American theatrical screening have already been purchased by 815 Pictures from Finecut based in Seoul.

As a cinephile who has spent countless hours immersed in films from around the world, I find myself particularly intrigued by this heartwarming drama, “High-School Dance Duo,” directed by Park Beom-su. Having previously appreciated his works like “Single in Seoul” and “Red Carpet,” I am eager to see how he approaches a story set on a remote Korean island, where the cheerleaders of a high school inspire an underdog soccer team and the entire community.

Finecut has secured agreements for the film’s distribution in Asia with various companies: Sky Films Entertainment (Taiwan), Lumix Media (Vietnam), PT Prima Cinema Multimedia (Indonesia), House of M (Thailand), Emphasis Video Entertainment (inflight distribution), and Westec Media Limited (Cambodia).

The movie titled “Victory” is set to debut in North America on August 16, following its initial screening in South Korea on August 14. According to Finecut, the remaining Asian premieres will occur over a period spanning from August to September.

In addition to our main characters, the following actors round out the cast: Park Se-wan, famously known for her role in “Life is Beautiful,” portrays the second half of our dance duo. Cho A-ram, previously seen in the TV series “Thank You,” joins us as a former cheerleader from Seoul who relocates to the village. Lastly, Lee Jung Ha, best recognized for her performance in “Moving” on Disney+, takes on the role of the perpetually losing school soccer team’s goalkeeper.

Made by Annapurna Films, a studio led by producer Lee Anna who is known for successful movies such as Sunny and Scandal Makers, the film Victory is distributed by Mindmark. Mindmark, an intellectual property content company owned by Shinsegae Group, has previously financed and distributed local films like Brave Citizen, Love Reset, and Honey Sweet. Their current lineup also includes Hur Jin-ho’s A Normal Family and Boss, as well as several other projects.
