Rajkummar Rao on whether he would have done Kabir Singh: 'Would be very hard for me to slap a girl'

As a fervent admirer of the artistry and integrity that Rajkummar Rao brings to his craft, I find myself deeply moved by his stance on the sensitive issue of violence against women in films. His refusal to slap a girl in a scene speaks volumes about his sensitivity and respect for women, which is a rare quality in today’s industry.

In 2019, the film Kabir Singh garnered massive box office success but faced criticism over certain scenes such as the slapping scene. Actor Rajkummar Rao, known for his diverse roles, expressed difficulty in striking a female character on screen. When asked about starring in Kabir Singh, the Stree 2 performer mentioned that he had numerous discussions with the film’s director regarding this matter.

At the latest HT City’s Stars In the City gathering, Rajkummar Rao was queried about an action he wouldn’t perform in a film. He replied, expressing it would be challenging for him to strike a woman on screen. Essentially, Rajkummar expressed his unwillingness to carry out such an act.

When asked if he’d do the film Kabir Singh, the actor mentioned he might have had numerous talks with the director about that specific scene. He further explained that unless it was crucial for his character, like breathing, he likely would have discussed and debated with the director over that particular scene.

The movie titled “Kabir Singh” is a heartfelt romantic drama featuring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the lead roles. This cinematic piece was skillfully directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who also remade it from his own Telugu film named “Arjun Reddy.”

Moving forward to Rajkummar Rao’s new film titled Stree 2, this is a follow-up to the popular horror-comedy Stree that premiered in 2018. The ensemble includes Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana in key roles. Niren Bhatt penned the script, while Amar Kaushik helms the director’s chair. Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Jyoti Deshpande, Stree 2 is set to be released in cinemas on August 15, which coincides with India’s Independence Day.

The film is set in the spooky town of Chanderi, where a headless specter now roams following the occurrences of Stree. Additionally, you may catch glimpses of Varun Dhawan and Tamannaah Bhatia in this production, as their songs have already been made public. Exclusively speaking with TopMob, Rajkummar Rao hinted that Stree 2 might feature up to four cameo appearances.
