As a longtime fan of George Clooney’s work, I can’t help but feel a twinge of admiration mixed with amusement at his recent sparring with Quentin Tarantino. It’s like watching two old friends bicker over who gets to keep the last popcorn kernel in a bucket full of movie magic.

In a recent interview for GQ, during a discussion with Brad Pitt on their upcoming film ‘Wolfs’, Clooney expressed some frustration towards Tarantino. Tarantino had made some comments about him in a previous interview, saying something along the lines of “He’s not a movie star” and challenged him to name a movie he starred in since the millennium.
In a follow-up, Clooney casually remarked, “Well, that’s essentially my entire acting career since the turn of the millennium.”
At this, Pitt laughs.
“Well, I’ve got no problem returning the favor since he dished it out first. However, let’s not forget that we’re fortunate to collaborate with such distinguished directors. The director and script are what truly breathe life into our work.”
In simpler terms, George Clooney’s acting career dates back to the 1980s. However, it’s also accurate to say that he has experienced significant success in films such as “The Perfect Storm” from 2000, the “Oceans Eleven” series which began in 2001, “Gravity” from 2013, and “Hail Caesar!” released in 2016.
George Clooney acted alongside Quentin Tarantino in the director’s 1996 blend of crime and horror titled “From Dusk Till Dawn,” whereas Brad Pitt has featured in multiple films directed by Tarantino, such as the 2019 release “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
In the discussion, Pitt complimented Tarantino’s acting in the film “Dusk“, saying he was “pretty good”, to which Clooney responded more casually, “He was alright in it.” Later, Pitt mentioned a specific scene where he felt Tarantino excelled, but couldn’t remember the exact one and simply said, “There’s a scene where he’s really good.”
Additionally, it wasn’t clear at first which specific Tarantino interview Clooney was referencing. However, the director has previously caused a stir by stating that Marvel actors aren’t true movie stars. He contends that the actual stars in these movies are the comic book characters themselves.
Speaking of which, Clooney also noted his 1997 movie Batman & Robin didn’t work.
Initially, when given the chance to choose a movie, he admittedly took every opportunity that presented itself, as he hadn’t yet comprehended the implications of his decisions. Since he wasn’t aware that he’d be accountable for the film’s success, he’d excitedly accept offers like “Batman & Robin” and share the news with friends. He didn’t pause to consider the consequences. After starring in three unsuccessful films, he realized his oversight: I’m responsible! I need to be more selective. This meant prioritizing a strong script, a skilled director, and if possible, having a say in the choice. To do this, he recognized that money couldn’t be the sole deciding factor. Because when fame was new, any significant financial offer felt like a rare treasure, something he had never experienced before.
