Shawn Levy Showed Off A Fun Marvel Easter Egg In Deadpool And Wolverine, But I'm More In My Feels Over Him Talking About That Last Shot

As a long-time Marvel enthusiast with memories of comic book stores and midnight movie premieres filling my heart with nostalgia, I must say that Shawn Levy has truly outdone himself with Deadpool & Wolverine. The final scene, with its subtle yet significant easter eggs, was the cherry on top of a film that already exceeded expectations.

Spoilers ahead for Deadpool & Wolverine.

Fans who have followed the Marvel Cinematic Universe chronologically have witnessed some missteps along the way, yet they are once again thriving at the top. The release of Deadpool and Wolverine shattered box office records and has been well-received by both critics and viewers. As fans eagerly anticipate streaming this blockbuster with a Disney+ subscription, details and hidden easter eggs from Deadpool 3 continue to emerge. For instance, director Shawn Levy unveiled an entertaining Marvel easter egg in one of his recent discussions, but what really gets me is him discussing that final shot.

Before its premiere, the upcoming Marvel movie featuring Deadpool and Wolverine had been eagerly awaited for quite some time. Once it hit the big screen, it certainly lived up to expectations, showcasing Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s playful rivalry in all its glory. The credits of Deadpool 3 paid homage to 20th Century Fox, but it seems that director Levy is particularly proud of the final scenes within the film itself. He shared an Instagram post revealing a hidden gem from the final scene in Wade’s apartment, accompanied by a heartfelt message. In his own words:

Isn’t it delightful! The team from Deadpool 3 ended up enjoying pizza and wrapping up happily in the final scene, following the multiverse’s rescue by Wade and Logan. Interestingly, the pizza box bore Kevin Feige’s name, another amusing Easter egg that was thoughtfully added by Levy and co. In fact, even the Deadpool creator, Rob Liefeld, received a witty tribute during the intense fight against the Deadpool Corps in the form of his own tongue-in-cheek shop. Despite being packed with jokes, it’s clear that Levy holds the movie, including its conclusion, in high regard… to the point where it might make one tear up. (I promise, that’s just dust in my eye!)

Indeed, Shawn Levy takes great pride in the emotional core of this post: the heartfelt sentiment he feels for the last scene featuring Deadpool and Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine. As you witness Wade and his comrades (including Logan and X-23) enjoying a peaceful pizza feast, the camera gracefully moves to display Deadpool and Wolverine’s masks. Given that their bond is central to the film (and its title), this closing shot of their masks serves as a fitting finale. It’s an achievement that Shawn Levy feels immensely proud of.

With the immense success of Deadpool 3, spectators are pondering if Shawn Levy will return as director for another chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Moreover, there’s a strong anticipation that Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds will reprise their roles in an upcoming project such as Avengers: Doomsday. For now, the studio is keeping its future plans under wraps, but it appears likely that Levy, Jackman, and Reynolds will all play significant roles in the MCU.
