As a gamer with a soft spot for well-crafted narratives and a penchant for wrestling drama (yes, I’ve spent more hours than I care to admit on WWE 2K), I can hardly contain my excitement about the arrival of “Heels” on Netflix. Having recently dived headfirst into the world of professional wrestling, I find myself oddly drawn to this intriguing show that doesn’t require you to be a diehard fan to enjoy it.
As each TV season concludes, we bid farewell to some fantastic programs. Although several cherished series have been terminated or are due to conclude in 2024, fans can look forward to a popular cable show migrating to one of the top streaming platforms for those with Netflix subscriptions. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it eventually receives the same level of recognition as “Suits.”
What Great Cable Show Is Finally Coming To Netflix?
The wait is over, as the former Starz series “Heels,” which ended in 2023 after its second season finale, featuring Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig, will be available on Netflix. Both highly-praised seasons will debut on Netflix on September 15, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
The story revolved around the characters of Amell and Ludwig, portraying Jack and Ace Spade – two wrestling professionals and siblings – striving to maintain their father’s small-town wrestling venture following his demise.
As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but appreciate that Heels wasn’t just another wrestling show catering exclusively to diehard WWE fans or pro-wrestling aficionados. Instead, it was an engaging narrative that even novices like myself could easily grasp and get hooked on. The series skillfully tackled universal themes such as right versus wrong, good versus evil (with both protagonists thriving in the villain role), family conflicts, romantic entanglements, and corporate struggles – elements that resonate with everyone.
Stephen Amell Has A Response For Fans After Reports Heels Could Get Uncancelled Roll Around
Speaking of which, folks, “Heels” is a show all about professional wrestling! If you’re a fan who enjoys peeking behind the curtain at how such an exhilarating sport is put together, and also appreciate a glimpse into the daily grind of a small promotion striving for greatness, this series is right up your alley. As someone who has recently taken a liking to sports entertainment (aka professional wrestling) and has been hooked after marathon-watching WWE, I can’t wait to dive into this drama and hope it receives the same level of acclaim as “Suits.”
Why Should Heels Get The Suits Treatment From Netflix?
As a dedicated gamer and binge-watcher, I’ve been eagerly waiting for over a year now since the legal drama “Suits” turned out to be an addictive series on Netflix. It skyrocketed in popularity, becoming a top streaming hit that managed to reach far more viewers than it did during its initial run on USA. This success sparked discussions about a revival, eventually leading to the creation of a spin-off titled “Suits: L.A.”. NBC has officially picked up this series for their 2024 TV schedule, and guess who’s taking the lead role? None other than Stephen Amell, star of the popular series “Heels”! If both shows perform well, we might just see a lot more of our beloved former “Arrow” star on our screens!
Apart from other reasons, another significant factor fuels my desire for the series to gain popularity on Netflix and secure at least one more season – it concluded with an unresolved plot point, also known as a cliffhanger. Previously, Showrunner/co-star Mike O’Malley expressed interest in reviving the series, and with its upcoming release on Netflix, he remains optimistic that we might get another chance, despite Amell’s new role. As O’Malley recently stated:
Everyone associated with the show is eager to produce more episodes of “Heels”. The popularity of Suits: LA on Netflix is likely to draw even more viewers towards Stephen’s work. Creating a season of Heels may not take too long, but it’s quite labor-intensive. However, there are opportunities during breaks in production (hiatuses) to create additional episodes.
I’m still holding out optimism for a streaming comeback of Amell’s final drama. Fingers crossed that Netflix sees it the same way and perhaps there’s a solution where Amell can simultaneously work on two productions!
