Although many fans expressed disappointment at having to wait two more years for this fight scene, the showrunner of the series, Ryan Condal, explained his choice during a press conference in August 2024 through The Hollywood Reporter. He confidently stated that the postponed battle would lead to an exceptional and impressive outcome.

In our narrative, we’re working towards an upcoming event that promises to be our most spectacular accomplishment yet. We wanted to take the time and create an experience that will thrill and satisfy our fans as they deserve. Additionally, we aimed to generate excitement for this event. During Season 2, there were numerous battles, including the shocking death of the Cargyll brothers, the tragic loss at Rook’s Rest, and the downfall of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. What’s more, everyone had anticipated that the major conflict would have started by now.

Instead of choosing a more rational approach, they opted for a more emotionally charged path. In fact, the director of the episode, Geeta Vasant Patel, expressed her approval in an interview with Elle in August 2024, stating that she found the decision to end with Alicent and Rhaenyra’s emotional conversation “beautiful”.

The thing that we all were focused on was how to make sure that this beautiful conversation between the two protagonists at the end of Episode 8 was as thrilling as some dragon fight. I have so much respect for Sara and Ryan for choosing to end the season finale with something that is about the words and the story and the dramaturgy. It speaks to how artful the show really is—they could have easily put a big action scene in the finale, and thought from the outside-in of what fans wanted, but instead they thought from the inside-out of what was in their heart.

As I ponder over this, it seems clear that Season 3 could shape up as a full-scale conflict. Frankly, I can hardly wait to witness the clashes that are inevitable, given the suspense we’ve all been building up.

Season 3 Will Most Likely Introduce Daeron Targaryen

You may have heard mentioned several times this season a character named Daeron Targaryen, who has not yet made an appearance on the show but resides in Oldtown. It’s likely we’ll see him for the first time in Season 3.

In the series, it’s a fleeting appearance, almost too fast to catch, but indeed, Daeron’s dragon, Tessarion, makes an appearance. It’s been confirmed by Condal during a press conference (as reported by The Wrap) that we will see Daeron in Season 3.

Honestly, it’s about dang time. I feel like I’ve been waiting on this man for years.

Aemond Targaryen Is Going To Be A Lot More “Desperate” And “Erratic”

As a long-time fan of the Game of Thrones series, I have to admit that Aemond Targaryen’s storyline this season has been nothing short of captivating. From his near-fatal confrontation with his brother to his sudden ascension to ruler of Westeros, it seems like fate has dealt him a hand full of twists and turns. However, I must caution that things may take a dark turn for Aemond in the coming season.

1. It seems to me that the person you’ll encounter next will appear extremely distressed and unpredictable. The Targaryens have always been viewed as closer to deities than mere men. The actions of Rhaenyra at the end of Episode 7 certainly provoke doubt and question the idea that only legitimate Targaryens can mount a dragon. While their lineage, as we’ve learned, seems genuine, the majority of Westeros doesn’t share that viewpoint.

We’re about to see him completely break loose.

Production Will Begin In 2025

Fortunately, we do have a scheduled start date for the production of Season 3 of “House of the Dragon”. We can anticipate receiving updates on the show next year since Variety reported in August 2024 that it will commence filming in 2025.
