Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar were a groundbreaking writing team during their era, collaborating on more than 22 box-office hits until they went separate ways in 1982. In an exciting development, this dynamic duo is coming together once again for a docu-series titled “Angry Young Men,” which will air on Prime Video. The project’s director, Namrata Rao, recently discussed the venture with ANI and revealed that despite their split, both families have maintained a strong bond over the years.
The National Award-winning individual stated, “To this day, Salim and Javed enjoy amicable relationships. During the production of the documentary, Salman Khan reminisced about the time when Salim Sahab suggested that his family should continue to foster friendship with the Akhtars, even after their falling out. Fortunately, no bitterness ever developed between the two families.”
Namrata continued discussing Salim and Javed, praising their unique humor. She referred to them as intriguing individuals. She confessed that she gained a significant amount of knowledge from them while producing this documentary series, and she described them as two people with a great knack for comedy. “Occasionally, though, the set required silence because everyone would start laughing after listening to their conversations,” Rao stated.
On August 20th, Prime Video’s series “Angry Young Men” takes viewers on a nostalgic journey through the lives and revolution of the writer duo Salim-Javed, who significantly shaped Hindi cinema by creating the Angry Young Man character archetype. In a recent press release, Salim Khan reflected upon his past in connection with this upcoming production.
Originally a storyteller behind the scenes, the seasoned author found his true calling when he transitioned in front of the camera. This led him to embrace writing, a skill that seemed innate to him. “Subsequently, I encountered Javed, another ardent writer,” Khan explained, “together we produced outstanding work that I am immensely proud of.
