As a lifelong movie enthusiast and history buff, I can confidently say that this upcoming publication of “Life. Hollywood” by Taschen is a dream come true for me. With my wallet already trembling in anticipation, I can hardly wait to get my hands on this two-volume blockbuster.

Hollywood” – an impressive collection of over 600 images from the glamorous world of Hollywood, curated from the archives of the iconic photography magazine, covering its Golden Age (1936-1972).
A compelling read for enthusiasts of Hollywood history, this two-volume set offers an intriguing exploration of the growth of the movie industry, interwoven with Life‘s own rise in cultural prominence (Prior to the advent of television, Life was a significant window into the world for many Americans, as one out of every three individuals were readers). The inaugural film star cover by Life was Jean Harlow in 1937. Subsequently, it published over 200 covers related to Hollywood until 1972, most of which are included in this book. Notable features include introductory texts by photography critic Lucy Sante, captions by film historian Justin Humphreys, and the work of more than 70 renowned Life photographers such as Alfred Eisenstaedt and Margaret Bourke-White, who captured stars like Bette Davis, Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, Clark Gable, Steve McQueen, Sophia Loren, Alfred Hitchcock, Sidney Poitier, Paul Newman, Jane Fonda, Brigitte Bardot, in various settings: at the Oscars, on sets, and relaxing at glamorous filming locations worldwide.
