Meta Acquires Tilda Swinton VR Doc ‘Impulse: Playing With Reality’

As a seasoned gamer with a deep interest in immersive storytelling and mental health issues, I am thrilled to hear about Meta’s acquisition of “Impulse: Playing With Reality”. Having personally experienced the powerful impact of virtual reality documentaries like “Goliath”, I eagerly anticipate the release of this new project. The fact that Tilda Swinton is voicing it makes it even more intriguing!

Facebook’s latest acquisition is titled “Impulse: Experimenting with Reality“, a thought-provoking interactive mixed-reality documentary focusing on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), narrated by Tilda Swinton. The work, created by directors May Abdalla and Barry Gene Murphy, is set to debut at the 2024 Immersive section of the 81st Venice International Film Festival during the Venice Film Festival.

The project is based on over 100 hours of interviews with people who have extreme ADHD, presented in a mixed reality style to offer audiences an understanding of what it’s like to experience life with this condition.

The production titled “Impulse” is the second part in the “Playing With Reality” series created by U.K. producer Anagram, collaboratively produced with Floréal and France Télévisions. This project aims to bring clarity to mental health issues by employing captivating narrative techniques.

Additionally, Swinton discussed the first installation of the series, a 2021 virtual reality project called “Goliath” by Abdalla and Murphy. This VR experience delves into the personal journey of an individual living with schizophrenia, which later received the Grand Jury Prize for the Best VR Immersive Work at the 78th Venice Festival and was nominated for an Emmy in the exceptional interactive media innovation category.

Meta is set to debut the documentary titled “Impulse” on their Meta Quest platform. You can secure a copy before its upcoming release next month by pre-ordering it at just $4.99. Additionally, Meta has recently unveiled another production called “Goliath”.

Anagram dropped the first trailer for the film on Wednesday. You can it check out below:
