While serving as host at the DNC on Wednesday, Mindy Kaling expressed a message towards Ben Affleck during a difficult time in his divorce proceedings with Jennifer Lopez.
As a proud Massachusette, I seized an opportunity to express my backing for a fellow actor, while also giving a heartfelt shoutout to our fantastic delegation. “I adore you Massachusetts,” I said, “Despite everyone always knocking us, they simply don’t comprehend!”
Following her mention of some cherished items from the state such as the Red Sox and basketball sensation Jayson Tatum, Kaling exclaimed, “Ben Affleck, keep going strong!” She further stated that Dunkin Donuts, a Massachusetts-based coffee chain that Affleck adores, is “the finest coffee globally.”

Kaling responded a day later following Lopez’s divorce filing from the actor, which occurred on their second wedding anniversary. As a versatile artist, she specified her separation date with Affleck as April 26th, hinting at speculations that they had parted ways in the spring.
People started to wonder if something was off when Lopez attended the premiere of her Netflix film “Atlas” alone and didn’t have Affleck by her side at the Met Gala, where they were both co-chairs. Additionally, rumors emerged that they had listed their house in Beverly Hills for sale in June and that Affleck may have moved to a temporary residence in Brentwood.
In 2021, Affleck and Lopez reignited their relationship, which had ended in 2004 after an engagement. Just a year into their rekindled romance, they secretly tied the knot in Las Vegas in an intimate ceremony. Despite proclaiming their undying love in numerous interviews, there were subtle signs of tension in their marriage.
In Lopez’s Amazon Prime documentary titled “The Greatest Love Story Never Told“, Affleck confessed that he wasn’t at ease with their relationship being in the limelight. “Upon reuniting,” said Affleck, “I stated, ‘Let me make this clear: I don’t want a relationship showcased on social media.’ However, I later understood it’s not fair to ask for such a thing. It’s like wanting to marry a boat captain but disliking the sea.”
Lopez acknowledged that although Affleck expressed unease about her discussing their private life in her recent album, “This Is Me…Now”, she had no intentions of altering her creative process. She stated, “He loves me, he understands I’m an artist, and he’ll support me in any way possible because he knows I can’t be hindered from creating the music I produce.” Essentially, he doesn’t want to hinder me, but it doesn’t mean he’s at ease with being the inspiration.
