DNC Day 4: Celebrity Guests, the Exonerated 5 and Mystery Wristbands on Kamala Harris’ Big Night

DNC Day 4: Celebrity Guests, the Exonerated 5 and Mystery Wristbands on Kamala Harris’ Big Night

As an avid follower of political events, I was thoroughly captivated by the fourth night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago’s United Center. The unexpected wristband lights added a touch of mystery and anticipation, making me wonder about the spectacular visual display that might unfold during Kamala Harris’ momentous speech.

When I walked into the bustling United Center for night four of the Democratic National Convention in 2024, I found an intriguing gadget on my seat – a light-up wristband bearing the DNC 2024 emblem. With each attendee receiving one, curiosity sparked as we pondered the device’s intended purpose.

Could it be that the audience will arrange a cluster of lights within the United Center during Harris’ closing speech, maybe depicting her likeness or the Harris/Walz symbol? There have been murmurs about an empty segment in the schedule toward the end of the event, and with Oprah Winfrey already having taken the stage, who among the women would be suitable for such a moment?

We’ll know soon… but for the next few hours, we all have the freedom to speculate.

Additionally, guests might have taken note that many female delegates chose to wear white in recognition of women’s suffrage during the night when Harris accepted the Democratic nomination. The atmosphere was filled with triumph as they repeatedly danced to tunes spun by Chicago-born DJ Metro during various intervals throughout the evening.

Notable personalities are already scheduled for the evening event, including Eva Longoria as the host (from 8 p.m. CT), Kerry Washington, D.L. Hughley, and more. They will be joining political heavyweights from the Democratic party such as Sen. Elizabeth Warren, House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, and Sen. Mark Kelly. However, the first celebrity to make an appearance was Morgan Freeman, who teamed up with actor Jeffrey Wright to narrate one of Harris’ recent ads that have been aired this week. At 87 years old, Freeman, an Academy Award winner whose narrative skills are frequently utilized in films, provided his voiceover over a series of clips from Harris’ life that may be recognizable to viewers who watched the DNC broadcast last night.

As I sat there, engrossed in my game, a pivotal instant unfolded that would forever alter Kamala Harris’ path – it sparked a flame deep within her soul.

At the United Center, among the initial speakers, was California Senator Alex Padilla. He took over Harris’ position when she moved up to become Vice President. Interestingly enough, Padilla and Harris share more than just a Senate seat; they are both offspring of immigrant families who climbed their way to prominence in their respective state’s political circles.

As a proud immigrant who has built a life in this great nation, I wholeheartedly support Tim Walz and Kamala Harris in their efforts to defend the American dream. They understand the struggles and aspirations of those who come here seeking opportunity, and they are committed to protecting our shared values of freedom, equality, and justice for all. Their readiness to stand up for the dream is what makes them my choice for the future leaders of this country.

As a gamer, I found an interesting parallel between my story and the GOP VP candidate, J.D. Vance. Similar to him, Sen. Tammy Baldwin was brought up by grandparents due to her mother’s struggle with addiction. Just like in my case and his, Social Security and Medicare were essential lifelines for our families growing up. Trump has proposed cutting these programs, but Sen. Baldwin made it clear that we won’t let that happen. We stand united on this issue.

“We Democrats, we honor our elders and ask the wealthy to pay their fair share,” she added.

As a fervent supporter, I eagerly awaited Al Sharpton’s arrival on stage, ready to introduce The Exonerated Five – the remarkable individuals who, as youngsters, were wrongfully accused of a rape in New York and subsequently mistreated by the justice system. In those days, Donald Trump took it upon himself to invest around $89,000, using it to publish full-page ads in multiple newspapers, demanding that these young men be put to death by the state. It was later proven through DNA analysis that they were innocent; together, they had spent a total of 41 years behind bars.

In 1989, Korey Wise – who was the only one among the five to serve their entire sentence within the adult prison system – addressed the crowd. He recounted his experience by stating, “Each day we entered the courtroom, we faced shouts and threats due to Donald Trump, but remember, we were just young, innocent boys.”

Yusef Salaam, currently a New York City Council member for a part of Harlem, then expressed his thoughts on electing Harris as a way to bid farewell, once and for all, to the detestable man in question.

“That man thinks that hate is the animating force in America; it is not. We have the constitutional right to vote — in fact, it is a human right, so let us use it,” Salaam said. “I want you to walk with us. I want you to march with us. I want you to vote with us. And let me tell you, this is going to be so beautiful. And together on Nov. 5, we will usher in Kamala Harris and Tim Walz into the White House.”
