OnePlus Launches World's First All-Metal 5G Phone

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for high-performance devices and an eye for design, I must admit that the OnePlus Nord 4 has piqued my interest. The promise of a metal unibody 5G smartphone is intriguing, especially considering the trend towards more glass in recent years due to the integration of 5G technology.

OnePlus introduced what they assert as the sole metal unibody design for a 5G smartphone globally (it’s important to note that the screen remains glass).

The latest OnePlus Nord 4 is crafted from a single, meticulously milled aluminum piece and boasts a slender 7.99mm profile, featuring a vibrant 120 Hz AMOLED display. While metal phones have been around for some time, the emergence and accelerated expansion of 5G technology have significantly impacted phone design. As more onboard antennas are required to facilitate 5G connectivity, manufacturers have shifted towards using less metal and more glass in their devices’ construction.

OnePlus claims they’ve made significant advancements, or innovations, to make this feasible. Some of these breakthroughs involve a completely revamped main circuit board and antennas that are more compact, approximately 50% smaller compared to their earlier designs.

Beyond its exterior, the OnePlus Nord 4 packs quite a punch. It’s equipped with Snapdragon’s robust 7 Plus Gen 3 processor and offers customizations up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, ensuring a versatile device that delivers solid performance, even in gaming. The phone boasts a massive 5,500mAh battery, the largest ever on a OnePlus Nord phone as claimed by the brand. This battery can be quickly recharged at an impressive 100 watts, which means it takes about 28 minutes to fully charge from empty, and OnePlus suggests that a mere 5-minute top-up provides enough power for 5 hours of Netflix streaming.

The main onboard camera features optical image stabilization and is powered by Sony’s LYT-600 sensor, producing sharp and color-accurate 50 megapixel photos. Additionally, the OnePlus Nord 4 features an ultra-wide camera with a 112-degree field of view, as well as a 16 megapixel selfie camera that, like the main one, is by Sony. Users can also take advantage of the phone’s powerful processor to utilize AI help when it comes to editing photos on the device, with tools including AI Eraser (for removing unwanted things in your pics), AI Clear Face (for high-definition photos) and AI Smart Cutout 2.0 (for adding fun elements to your shots) available now, and others like AI Best Face (which fixes group photos “so that one friend with their eyes closed can magically open them again”) coming later this year.

OnePlus guarantees an extended support for their latest gadget, promising a total of six years of security updates and four different versions of Android, which represents the longest support package they’ve ever provided.

You can purchase the OnePlus Nord 4 right now from the brand’s official site in three hues: ‘Oasis Green’, ‘Obsidian Midnight’, and ‘Mercurial Silver’. The prices begin at £429 GBP or €499 EUR. Unfortunately, we don’t have any details about a US release yet. Keep an eye on TopMob for any updates regarding this matter.

To put it simply, isn’t it only natural that a group known for their heavy metal music would be associated with a metal-built phone? That’s exactly what OnePlus did, partnering with the renowned Finnish heavy metal band, Lordi, to spearhead its marketing campaign. It was a perfect match, wasn’t it?
