Rajkummar Rao REVEALS if he wants to build Shah Rukh Khan-like brand identity for himself: ‘I don’t want to be a slave...'

As a dedicated follower and admirer of Rajkummar Rao‘s work, I deeply respect his unique approach to acting and stardom. His unwavering commitment to his art form is truly inspiring. Unlike some actors who strive to build a brand or an image, Rajkummar sees himself as an artist first and foremost. He doesn’t want to be a product; he wants to create, surprise, and grow both as an actor and as a human being.

Rajkummar Rao, a long-time admirer of Shah Rukh Khan, often wonders if he could create an image similar to his idol. In a recent conversation on Raj Shamani’s podcast, he was asked about the one word he’d like people to associate with him like SRK is linked to ‘love.’

In response to the question posed, Rao admitted that he hadn’t given it much consideration. However, he expressed his desire to avoid getting stuck in such a situation. He emphasized, “I don’t want to be ensnared or enslaved by it… As an actor, I must adapt, I must transform myself.” Later in the podcast, Rajkummar Rao discussed Shah Rukh Khan’s approach to meeting fan expectations and whether such clarity benefits actors.

The host inquired, “Perhaps he behaves this way privately as well, but it might also be beneficial to project oneself strategically in public… Is that something you can relate to?”. Rapidly responding, Rao stated that acting is a form of art and artists are merely producing art (movies). “If it’s an artistic expression, why am I transforming myself into a brand? I’m not a commodity. I’m a person with emotions, and my work involves recreating those feelings. It’s deeply personal,” Rajkummar further explained.

The 39-year-old expressed that he doesn’t identify himself as a commodity or a label, but rather sees his reflection primarily as an artist. Rao further stated, “I’m here to produce, I’m here to astonish my audience, I’m here to astonish myself.”

Rajkummar, on the other hand, stated that he doesn’t like to overly plan his decisions for the future and admitted there may be instances where his approach is incorrect. Despite distancing himself from Shah Rukh Khan’s thumb rule, he frequently refers back to the wise words of this legendary actor.

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but share a nugget of wisdom that the legendary SRK bestowed upon me in an interview with Mashable. He advised, “Whenever you decide to invest in a home, stretch your budget just a bit and purchase one that slightly exceeds your current means. That way, you’ll find yourself working harder, striving to earn it.”

Rajkummar’s Stree 2 is currently in theatres near you.
