Farhan Akhtar didn’t want his kids with ex-wife Adhuna to suffer as he did after his parents’ divorce: ‘I cannot do this to my own kids’

Farhan Akhtar, a well-known figure, is the child born to Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani who tied the knot in 1972. Unfortunately, their marriage ended in 1978 and they eventually divorced in 1985. In a recent conversation with Faye D’Souza, Farhan discussed how his upbringing amidst separated parents significantly influenced his own separation from Adhuna Bhabani, his former spouse.

Farhan Akhtar, who had experienced divorce as a child, understood all too well the potential effect on his daughters Shakya and Akira. He expressed, “It wasn’t easy. One significant factor was my personal experience of growing up with divorced parents. I remember how it felt, and there was an immense part of me that didn’t want to put my own kids through a similar situation.”

In a candid disclosure, Don-helmer shared that the reason behind his divorce from Adhuna was unrelated to their children. It wasn’t due to anything they did or said, nor was it because they existed in the first place.

Farhan stated, “This is a decision made by two mature individuals, who mutually agreed upon it as friends. This is the best solution we found, but it’s an action I will need to accept and deal with for the remainder of my life.”

As a loyal devotee, I find myself grappling with the question of whether they truly deserved what transpired. The reality that this incident occurred during my formative years significantly impacts my current feelings towards it.

Farhan and Adhuna tied the knot in 2000, but they separated in 2016. Their divorce was finalized in the year that followed. The actor-filmmaker is currently married to Shibani Dandekar since 2022, and they continue to share parenting responsibilities for their daughters with Adhuna.

On the work front, Farhan is gearing up for his directorial return with Don 3 starring Ranveer Singh and Kiara Advani in the lead. The movie is eyeing a 2025 release as of now. He also has Jee Le Zara with Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, and Katrina Kaif which is currently on the backburner.
