As a ’90s kid who grew up watching Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, I must say that Brie Larson’s recent fashion choice has sent me down memory lane. The pink-on-pink ensemble was not just a homage to the iconic character but also a reminder of how much I miss the days when legal drama and fashion were as intertwined as they were in that movie.
If you needed a fresh nudge about the ’00s trending back in celebrity fashion, Brie Larson served up a Barbie-esque pink ensemble that truly evokes memories of a classic film: “Legally Blonde”. At a recent SAG-Aftra event for her show “Lessons in Chemistry”, she was more like a living embodiment of Elle Woods’ iconic style.
Rocking a pink blouse and a pink tweed skirt with cool ballet flats in a slightly darker shade, Brie Larson looked like she could bend and snap any second. The look as a whole channeled Elle Woods, though jury’s out on whether it’s technically closer to the peacock blue legal look she sported or her main suit in Legally Blonde: Red, White and Blonde. It sort of has it’s own thing going on, but it’s definitely referential too.
Larson also took to social media to share a close up of her outfit, confirming she, too recognizes she looks like Reese Witherspoon in what may be her most iconic role. After she captioned her post, “Just a little Elle Woods cosplay for a sag-aftra q&a,” Reese Witherspoon saw it and actual responded, joking on Instagram:

Fun fact, I couldn’t have asked for a better time to discuss this! Lately, everyone seems to be talking about “Legally Blonde” and it’s got me reminiscing about my favorite scenes.
As a fan who’s always been eager to see more of Elle Woods, I’ve been waiting with bated breath for news about Legally Blonde 3. But it seems like that dream might be on hold for now, as MGM has decided to take a different route and create a Prime Video TV series titled Elle instead. This new project will be a prequel focusing on Elle Woods during her teenage years. While we haven’t heard anything fresh about Legally Blonde 3 lately, at least the Amazon TV series gives us something tangible to look forward to in the meantime!
On different instances, other celebrities have taken inspiration from Witherspoon’s renowned film character. For instance, Mindy Kaling mimicked the role at a pool party, adopting Elle Woods’ pose from her Harvard Law application video. (It’s worth mentioning that Kaling was linked to be part of Legally Blonde 3.) Similarly, Florence Pugh did it during a Black Widow press tour. Interestingly, Reese Witherspoon has also been seen embodying Elle Woods on several occasions as well.
Watching Brie handle it is just the cherry on top. Honestly, it’s a pity she’s in her thirties since I’d be curious to see how she might work with a younger version of Elle. For now though, I’m content with the cosplay portrayal.
