In a past interview, he shared that his father served in the military and he studied at a military school located in Belgaum. As he prepared to graduate, there was an offer for him to join the army, which he declined in favor of pursuing a career in theater. Looking back, he occasionally wonders if his parents would have been happier had he chosen the military instead.
Additionally, he mentioned that during his time in Bhopal, he took part in multiple plays directed by several individuals. He even went against tradition by not confining himself to a single theater troupe and instead collaborating with various groups.
Initially, Kumud gained recognition in the realm of Indian television. His intricate portrayals in series such as Swabhimaan and Hum Paanch demonstrated his adaptability and knack for resonating with viewers. Nevertheless, it was his leap to the big screen that propelled him to fame.
1996 marked his first appearance on screen with Sardari Begum, but it was his captivating portrayal of the mysterious Ustad Farhan in the critically lauded film Rockstar (featuring Ranbir Kapoor) that truly catapulted Mishra to stardom. His performance earned him universal acclaim and solidified his status as a trusted and potent actor.
After the triumph of Rockstar, Mishra consistently shone in diverse roles such as Airlift, Badlapur, Sultan, Rustom, among others. He collaborated with Salman Khan on the intense action films Tiger Zinda Hai and Tiger 3.
