As a long-time gamer who’s also a die-hard hip-hop fan, I can’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for Lil Baby, aka Dominique Armani Jones, amidst this recent legal drama. It seems like he’s caught up in a web of bureaucracy and permit complications, which is something I can relate to on a spiritual level – albeit in the realm of virtual gaming permissions rather than firearm permits!
Rapper Lil Baby is said to have been freed on bail in Las Vegas following his arrest on Monday morning, charged with unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon without a license.
29-year-old rapper Dominique Armani Jones, who hails from Atlanta, was apprehended under suspicion of carrying a hidden firearm near the northern end of Las Vegas Strip, as reported by the Associated Press. Yet, his legal team has issued a statement to the L.A. Times, expressing confusion about why Jones would be charged with this weapons offense, given that he legally carries a concealed weapon in his home state and holds a valid permit for it.
In a statement to the Times, attorneys Drew Findling and David Chesnoff confirmed that Jones holds a legal permit for concealed carry of weapons issued by Georgia. They added that they are currently examining the details leading to his arrest in Las Vegas.
Georgia’s Attorney General doesn’t acknowledge Nevada’s concealed carry permits on their list of valid permits.
According to recent reports by AP, there were no charges brought against Jones following his initial court appearance in Clark County. He was granted release on a $5000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court again on October 1st. However, The Hollywood Reporter has yet to receive any response from their records requests made to both the Las Vegas Police Department and the Clark County Courts.
On Sunday evening, Lil Baby attended a birthday bash for NBA player James Harden (of the Los Angeles Clippers) in Las Vegas. Various clips from the event have surfaced on TikTok, featuring the renowned rapper.
2017 saw a significant rise in the rapper’s career with the release of the mixtape “Harder than Hard,” which included the Billboard Hot 100 hit “My Dawg” and its successor, “Too Hard.” His second album, titled “My Turn,” came out in 2020 and peaked at no. 3 on the Billboard Charts. That year, he received a Grammy for his contribution to Kanye West’s “Hurricane.” Furthermore, Lil Baby was honored with the Best Male Hip-Hop Artist award at the 2021 BET Awards and was named the 2020 Artist of the Year at the Apple Music Awards.
