As a seasoned gamer and art enthusiast with a soft spot for cutting-edge technology, I can’t help but feel exhilarated by the K11 Art Foundation‘s Lunar Water exhibition at Frieze Seoul. The blend of traditional Korean culture, Chuseok spirit, and contemporary generative art is an intoxicating mix that promises to be a visual feast for my eyes.
The K11 Art Foundation is launching a collection of activities for Frieze Seoul, beginning with their Moon Party as an initial event. To honor Korea’s Moon Festival, K11 is expressing the essence of Chuseok while promoting creativity and collaboration through its inaugural generative art exhibition called “Lunar Water.”
At the exhibition, Flipster serves as the main sponsor and LG OLED as our digital screen partner, offering visitors immersive encounters with innovative artworks. On display are generative pieces by artists a’strict & Tyler Hobbs, along with a brand-new, large-scale generative artwork by Cheng Ran. For this exhibition, Cheng Ran teamed up with Genify and Bohan Sun to rethink his film “In Course of the Miraculous” – first premiered at the Istanbul Biennale – into a generative artwork for the very first time. The event also highlights groundbreaking works by pioneer in generative art, Tyler Hobbs. His NFT pieces will be showcased as an investigation into the intriguing meeting point of digital and traditional art forms. South Korean digital art collective a’strict will unveil a captivating digital installation called “Waterfall — Sands,” which employs anamorphic illusions and advanced projection methods to create a breathtaking representation of a waterfall. Accompanied by the sound of crashing waterfalls, this experience promises to be mesmerizing.
Adrian Cheng, founder of K11, will additionally reveal two significant new projects – the K11 Salon and the K11 Curator Prize. His aim is to establish a strong foundation for the organization’s future ambitious ventures in art that generates creativity, while emphasizing its dedication to groundbreaking innovations within the art sphere. The exhibit titled Lunar Water, showcasing artists who bridge cultures through advanced technology and expand their visual expression, is open from September 4 to 7 during Frieze Seoul.
