Space Goblin Studio's Astrobotanica combines exploration with green-fingered fun

As a seasoned gamer with roots deeply entrenched in survival and exploration genres, I can’t help but feel a surge of anticipation upon witnessing the unveiling of Astrobotanica by Space Goblin Studio. The concept of blending these familiar tropes with plant wizardry and an alien botanist is not only intriguing but also refreshingly original.

Space Goblin Studio has unveiled its first game, titled Astrobotanica, which combines traditional survival and exploration elements with an intriguing twist: plant magic! For green-thumbed gamers eager to showcase their horticultural skills, this is your chance to venture into the unknown and prepare for the upcoming neighborhood gardening contest.

2025 sees the arrival of Astrobotanica on Steam Early Access, an immersive “open-world survival adventure set in a lush prehistoric landscape“. This game takes us to an alien planet named Aya, where our protagonist – an alien botanist – embarks on a journey to save their dying world. Unfortunately, they accidentally crash-land not on Aya, but here instead.

Astrobotanica’s first trailer is all about green-fingered fun

300,000 years ago during the Pleistocene epoch on Earth, you assume the role of Xel, a clever little extraterrestrial known for their green thumb skills. Originally tasked with cataloging planets abundant in plant life, Xel now finds themselves in a challenging situation due to this world’s CO2-poor atmosphere, requiring them to adapt and survive.

As a gamer, I find myself in the shoes of Xel, facing an Earth that’s no longer home. Now, I must seek out alien species capable of flourishing on Aya, while navigating its untamed wildlife and primitive human-like inhabitants. The debut trailer for Astrobotinica offers a tantalizing glimpse into this world, where the endearing title hints at a deeper narrative about preserving planets, not just ours.

Speaking excitedly about Space Goblin’s initial release, founder Arkadiusz Woźniak shares, “Astrobotanica is a game we’ve longed to experience…My goal is to revitalize the survival genre by blending fresh mechanics with familiar motifs.”

With high hopes that Astrobotanica will become a “remarkable title” thanks to player support, Woźniak has also teased the potential of future co-op. The Space Goblin Studio team boasts some impressive talent, with developers having worked on franchises including Dead Island, Dying Light, and Green Hell.

The developers aim to expand on the anticipated cooperative game, by collaborating closely with players to maintain its significance and fun factor, all while delivering a profound, impactful narrative. At present, you can add Astrobotanica to your wishlist through Steam.
