CD Projekt Red Updates on Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can say that Cyberpunk 2077 has been quite the rollercoaster ride. The anticipation for this game was through the roof, and while its initial release left much to be desired, the patches and the Netflix series have breathed new life into Night City.

CD Projekt Red undeniably made an impression with the triumph of The Witcher III, yet they’ve additionally attracted considerable interest through their another open-world RPG, Cyberpunk 2077.

It’s been a while since a follow-up for Cyberpunk was announced, and we all know how long game development can take. But recently, there’s been some news about where in the process Cyberpunk 2 stands now.

Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Gets Update from CDPR’s CFO

During a recent conference call discussing earnings, CD Projekt Red’s financial head Piotr Nielubowicz shared updates about their ongoing projects. Among these, there is the follow-up to Cyberpunk, tentatively referred to as Project Orion.

According to Nielubowicz (through game-wrecks.com), a team of experienced CD Projekt Red members, along with newly recruited skilled developers, are establishing foundations for another Cyberpunk title. The video indicates that the project is at its initial stage, often referred to as the planning phase, where they focus on developing the storyline and creating concept art.

The game will reach its complete development stage once the team begins creating real digital components like levels, characters, and cutscenes for production.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Rocky Road

2020 saw immense anticipation for the debut of Cyberpunk 2077, largely due to CDPR’s triumph with The Witcher III. Regrettably, following multiple postponements, the game was launched in an incomplete state, leading to one of the most disastrous game launches ever recorded. The situation became so dire that it prompted its removal from digital storefronts.

Fast-forward to 2022: Cyberpunk underwent numerous updates to rectify initial issues, but it was actually the debut of Netflix’s series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, that attracted a massive wave of new gamers eager to explore Night City. With most of the game’s launch problems resolved, players were thoroughly enjoying their dive into the world as intended by CDPR.

Following the return of Cyberpunk, CDPR has opted to launch a massive expansion titled Phantom Liberty. The gaming community has affectionately hailed it as being ‘redeemed’.

Project Orion

As the sequel to “Cyberpunk” is currently in its developmental stage, not much information has been disclosed about it. However, given that the initial game is yet to fully leverage the capabilities of current-generation consoles such as PS4 and Xbox One, fans anticipate that the sequel will take full advantage of the enhanced capabilities offered by next-generation platforms.

Despite garnering acclaim post-patch, Cyberpunk 2077 continues to present issues for some players, notably the lack of visibility of characters during gameplay. Given the game’s emphasis on fashion and character customization, many find it peculiar that players are unable to see their characters for much of the gaming experience.
